Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like shimano is using stepper motors, that will give a little advantage because the motors can be very small and at the at the other side they work differently so to make a 360 degrees turn some motors have 6 to 20 steps...

Out of curiosity, why do you say that? I haven't seen the inside of a Di2; so I don't really have any idea what's there.

Oh, and BUUUMMMPPP. Latest build log: https://www.veescafe.com/openshift/Log03282010.aspx

any video's of the working proto's (not on the bike). I mean when you push the buttons are the servo's working properly. I think something like this is awesome and just enjoying the progress..

Yeah, I know, they're not pretty, but they work! I mainly used them due to costs; they were free (lots of old computer parts). Plus they can handle 11 amps/pin, so they'll preform the task well .

Here's the best one so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m23kg...layer_embedded

I had to take the servos off the bike this week, while I worked on the electronics. But I'll be putting them back on soon; so I'll take some additional videos then.

Molex connectors working is one thing, but for how long? There's a lot of moisture, other environmental cr*p and vibration on a bicycle. Connectors for inside a computer are not designed for that.

I think that's the whole 'work in progress' thing. I would hope the OP would consider a waterproof final version.

It's really been fun watching the development.... who knows, the OP might rival Shimano a few years from now

Awesome. Job well done up to this point, and I can't wait to see the final product (These shifts looked great)

So what else have you invented, re-engineered

I love this idea, I'm adding to my bookmarks, if that will work I'm building one myself, I have about dozen servos and electronics from my RC cars and heli. It is such a cool idea, at the end cover in carbon water proof box and put white X sticker on each. Love it

If so, he'll be hearing from SRAM's IP lawyers.

Also, I know it might be a little late, but I have lot's of older parts, especially derailleurs, that you might be able to use for your experimentation. I'd be willing to donate some, and possibly a set of unused RC airplane wireless servos and controllers. They look almost identical to what you have there. Might be good for some wireless experimentation. PM me if there's anything I can help you with.
