Look vs Shimano cleats

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look vs Shimano cleats

Hi

I have Look classic pedals and Look cleats. I am thinking of changing to Shimano for the following reasons:
  1. Shimano cleats are wider so are more stable when walking around
  2. Shimano cleats have little yellow rubber feet, so they are more grippy when walking around - the Look cleats dont have any rubber on them

Now I know that you shouldn't walk around too far in shoes, but even walking around under the house is pretty slippery and I think I stand more chance of injuring myself slipping over with the Look cleats.

Question - Is there any difference between the Looks and the Shimanos when I am riding the bike (yes I know the pedals are different).

Thanks

davida

You can get Look cleats with the rubber on them.

Yeah, but I hear they suck.

Why not get cleat covers? They are made of rubber and give more traction than the little yellow feet on my Shimano cleats ever could.

I really just want to be able to walk short distances, so don't want to go to the trouble of wearing cleat covers.

You can get Keos with rubber, but they are a different model compared to the standard cleat. And they are still no wider.

So is there any difference between the Keos and Shimanos when riding.

If you have wide feet, you'll probably appreciate the Shimanos. I also like how Shimanos are alloy, nice and solid; the plastic-on-plastic of the Keo cleats and pedals always felt flimsy to me when I used them.

My keo's creaked and wore quick (cleat and pedal). I Like my 6700's much more.

No. I used Shimanos for years and Keos for the past year. They're both the same while riding.

You'll get used to either cleat. The differences aren't significant.
