Focus Izalco Pro CP
 

Anyone have any experience with this brand or model? My LBS is taking these on for 2010 and I'm highly considering this model. Price is SICK for the specs, but just don't know much about the brand. Currently riding 07 Giant TCR Advanced. Could move to this bike for about $500 after selling the TCR.......worth it?

ive never heard of them either. im going to assume with confidence that your giant is a much more reputable company. why not stay with giant?

I have heard of them. Their bikes are ridden by the international pro team Milram. It is a very nice bike from what I have heard and I would be very interested in buying one. It is not the stiffest of frames out there, but it is great for longer rides and road racing. I would highly recommend you to seriously consider purchasing one.

Don't get me wrong.....I love my Giant and am a huge fan of Giant bikes. From my MTB to my daughters tricycle, that's all I have in the stable. I am aware that Milram is using this bike and from what I can gather on the net, there is nothing but positive reviews on the Focus bikes. To be honest I wouldn't mind a bike with a little less rigidity. Two years ago I jacked my L4-5 disc and anyting over a couple hours on the bike can really aggrevate it. I wasn't considering an new bike, but for $4200 MSRP (and the dealer is getting me cost so much less) you can get that bike with full 7900 DA, carbon clincher wheels, 3T post, stem, handlebars....pretty much pimped. It's almost like trading in a 3 yr old porsche for a brand new one without it costing anything. Seems crazy. It has a BB30 bottom bracket so as long as its stiff enough for a field sprint at local races and rides, I am fine with it. That's why I'm wondering if anyone has good or bad stories with the Focus line. I've been seeing them in all of the cycling mags, but just haven't seen any on the road since they are new to the states.

I have a focus cayo,its one step down from a izalco.Reviews in bike mags and forums say that focus bikes are too stiff!They also say that all focus bikes are not so comfortable on long rides.It has a short head tube and a very aggressive setup.It also has a short wheel base,its basically an out and out race bike.Models for 2010 have lots of upgrades in there frames.

I have the 2008 model,and while its my first carbon road and I have nothing to compare it to I think its plenty stiff.

I have a giant and a focus,giants are better much better IMO

Which Giant and Which Focus?

Focus is a big brand in Germany and they are commonplace (and well liked AFAIK) in the UK.

So the Focus Izalco Pro (2) came in yesterday. Too early to tell, but my initial impressions are that it is a phenomenal bike for the price. Actually, it's MUCH better than I anticipated. The new frame with internal cable housing, tapered steerer, and BB30 are great and routing the cables was a snap! If only my handlebar was that simple. Still getting things dialed in, but will post some pics and a better review once I get things in order.

Asthetically, the pictures on their website and floating on the net don't really do it justice. The down tube is WAY bigger than it looks from the pictures, and paint/graphics/colors are swank in person. The black is very raw carbon and looks great. Out of the box it weighed in at 17.5 lbs. But that's with some rediculously heavy bars, stem, and post. The bars alone weighed a full pound. Wheels were on the heavy side as well, but would make a great training set. I would assume this will be in the 15lb range once I get the Amer Classic 420 mounted, stem, and post replaced.

Nearly but not quite a German Trek.

It's done. Here's some pics. 150 miles in I'm VERY pleased with this bike. Horizontally stiff, but very compliant ride. Stock stem, post, and bar were in house brands (replaced on this bike) and were quite heavy, but otherwise it's pretty well spec'd out of the box. Stock Fulcrum Racing 5's were replaced with Am Classic 420's. Big difference there.

Thanks....I was trying to keep things tied together and still go with components that I wanted. Worked out well. This picture makes it look REALLLY busy, but in person it doesn't seem to be too much. Overall, I'm pleased.
