Good Carbon Framesets

I've been thinking about slowly collecting parts to begin a build for a new bike. I'm looking into carbon frames and want some extra advice on what would be good brands to look into. I'm hoping someone has some good frames that are not "Name Brand" i.e. Felt, Giant, Trek, etc.... I'm kinda looking for something that will work well for someone who intends on recreational riding with the possibility of racing. Thanks for any help. I'm open to other frame types as well, I'm not just looking exclusively at carbon.

Bikes Direct has a special on a Motobecane Carbon frame for $495.

Also, the PedalForce frames seem to have been well-received by the BF folks who've bought them in the past

I know little about them, but Pedal Force frames are constantly talked about on here. Group Buy thread

...fhill beat me to it

You might look at closeout bikes, 2009's. Good deals can be found. Look at performance bike carbon frames in Fuji and Scattante.

Also Planet-X and Neuvation.

I saw some of the planet-x frames, are they any good? I don't know much about them. They look close to what I'm looking for.

Calfee is the best for service and warranty...Very important if you are going to crack your frame. Murphy's law...carbon cracks.

Our R100 might work for you. We are expecting a new batch of frames any day now.

I suggest you place some parameters on your post--- like budget. I also assume you are only looking for a bare frame, which largely ignores the volume brand sellers (Trek, Specialized, Giant, etc.).

As far as budget goes, I'm pretty open right now. I'm looking for something solid, but not overly expensive. Preferably I would like to stay under the $1000 line, but that is not a firm line. I'm willing to pay if I can justify it in terms of overall quality. I'm not completely sold on doing carbon, I'm open to other options if someone knows that it will be just as good. The reason I said besides all the volume sellers is that I feel that I may just be paying for the name and there might be other options that are just as good for less money.

Dunno why nobody mentioned KUOTA. Awesome frames warrantied for life.

Velo Vie Vitesse frames are excellent quality, ride really smoothly but are suitably stiff for racing and are less expensive than many CF frames of comparable quality.

Calfee will also let you transfer a warranty. So if you plan on buying used, you can warranty it. I have bought two used Calfees and haven't any problem with either of them.

Something else to consider--what fits you.

Different bike manufacturers use different geometry. For example, I know that I need a tall head tube or I will have neck pain. If you are buying new, Calfee can build you a custom carbon frame, if you need it most people don't. Custom carbon frames are rare amoung bike manufacturers.

Can't say enough about this frame.
