What should I do?
I have never owned a road bike other than "race" geometry bikes. I'm not the most flexible person even at 29 and as you can see in my picture I have spacers (which I hate the look and a 0 rise on my bars. I have an oddly proportioned body. I have long legs and a short torso.
As in I have an inseam that puts me on a 56 but a torso that puts me on a 53. So I ride a 54. I have been looking at other geometries and think that the Roubaix or Cervelo RS would fit with no spacers and be possibly more comfortable. What would I be missing if I went to one of these bikes? As a side note. I do not race and don't plan to. I do more competitive group rides with some cat 2, 3 and 4 guys. It's also very hilly where I live. Think Blue Ridge Mountains. Here's the SL2 I'm on now. I think it looks great except for the spacers. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...e21/SL2009.jpg |
The Roubaix has a taller headtube, which would get rid of your spacers. I ride a Madone 6.5 which does the same thing. For what it's worth I don't think the spacers really look bad on your bike as is.

Know what a 6.5 Madone frame costs? Thanks.

A big deal gets made over spacers, but they're nothing to worry about. I don't have weird proportions (well, my legs are a little long) but I'm not very flexible and do use a nice stack of spacers. I still have a reasonable 9 cm of saddle to bar drop; not a ton, but a good balance of drop and comfort. I could tolerate more with a shorter stem, which I might experiment with once I've got a little money to play with. For now: whatever. I'm comfortable and can still get aero enough if I want by either bending my elbows or using the drops.
Your spacers don't even look bad from my perspective. I don't think having a huge headtube looks that great, either. That's the option other than spacers, though. |
How about custom?

cervelo - love it!

If you like the bike otherwise, then don't worry about the spacers.

That bike looks great just like it is.
