chain rub and the half click
I've got a 105 group and have been trying to get my arms around the half click concept. When I'm on the small chain ring I can get the half clicks up to the large, but when I'm on the large, I cannot get half clicks down to the small chain ring. Is this normal. The half clicks only work when upshifting? I get the occasional chain rub and I'm trying to eliminate it. Thanks!

The half-click only works on the upshift. Adjust the front derailleur to where the chain doesn't rub on the outside of the cage. It should then only rub a little on the inside, allowing you to do the half-click with no rubbing on either side.

One thing I liked better about Dura Ace shifters was finer trim adjustments. When I upgraded my bike to DA 9sp, I found I could adjust the front derailleur to where I didn’t need any trim :)
One tip for minimizing chain rub/trim is to rotate the back of the derailleur away from the bike as opposed to square with the chainrings. The chain moves down as it moves towards the outer cogs and this helps align the cage with the chain path. -murray |
Great. Thanks for all the input I'll check it out today. Thanks everyone.
