edge 305 handlebar mounts...
first off it seems funny to me that a product like the edge, which is marketed as being able to transfer from bike to bike easily with no wires only comes with one bar mount in the box. its a simple little piece of plastic held on with two zip ties - MAYBE 35 cents cost to garmin, since they are mass produced.
garmin has the "kit" for $13.50 plus shipping, and i cant find them much cheaper anywhere. these literally cant cost more than half a dollar to produce, i'll buy my own damned zip ties. anyway i have 4 bikes, does anyone have a cheap source for these things before i bite the bullet and order a few through garmin? |
Check ebay.. I just looked at the cheapest one listed looks like $12.25 w/free ship. My 305 came with one handlebar mount, one stem mount in the box. I have the same problem.. 4 bikes, 2 mounts.

I'd try sending a message to Garmin.... They are really responsive to customer problems and questions.... I would just repeat what you have mentioned above. Wouldn't surprise me if they helped you out. Worth a shot anyways.
But yes.... They are overpriced. I only run my edge 305 on two bikes so it wasn't to bad. |

this is exactly what mine came with, only one actual mount, and rubber blocks to make it go either way. |
The newer style can be used vert or horiz, older ones can not. Try calling them, if you get the right person you'll get taken care of. They sent me 3 of the newer style gratis when I called b/c one of my older ones broke.

Handlebar mounts for the Edge, I have 2 of them sitting in a box somewhere. Shoot me a PM with an address a couple of buck to cover the postage and they are yours.
|
Just a tip: I broke several of these mounts just by handling the bike without the Edge mounted. If you locate the mount on your stem, then it's really easy to break off the tab if you grab the bike by the stem. In that configuration, the tab is very exposed; it just hangs off into space, and will snap off with very little upward deflection. With the Edge mounted, or if you mount it on the handlebars, then the tab is shielded somewhat.
So I finally learned to be careful about how I grab the stem so that my hand doesn't catch on the tab. |

I have the funky carbon handlebars and stem made by ControlTech so I had to fashion a small pvc pipe piece to the stem. Only place I could put it. Also Garmin sells the quick release tabs for $7.00 shipped.
DOH... Just reread the thread.... This is about the edge, disregard |
Overpriced! I've broken 2 of those tabs, I called Garmin once they said to buy a new mount. So an extra $26 on the price of my edge. You should be able to buy them for less then $5.

Edit: the new mounts have thicker release tabs, which also commonly broke. I probably went through about 10 of the old mounts, but I've been using a new mount since it came out and have not had any issues with it. |
