So who bought a new bike this year?

New or used since January of this year? Just wondering....

lucien2 08-24-04 03:40 PM

I have one ordered, does that count?

Bacca 08-24-04 03:44 PM

Looking as we speak. Awaiting all the manufactures to come out with their '05s to compare :p

crosscut 08-24-04 03:45 PM

I would consider that a yes. I have ordered mine and it comes in tomorrow.BooYah!

Reason for the question was the idea that bec/ of LA and the Tour that more and more people are cycling. Thus the supply and demand curve is changing although in a few years if LA doesn't ride again after next year there will be an large amount of good used bikes on the market.

I need to get out more.

I don't think Lance has that much impact on the market. Maybe a handful of people bought a bike. I never bought a basketball during Jordan's prime. I did buy a hockey mask, but that had less to do with Gretzky and more to do with Jason.

I bought 13 months ago... won't have money for another year or two for a new ride.

I bought my first road bike this year.
I think that LA helps some but really all the companies would rather see a ton of repeat business then a bunch of people just buying a bike cause it is cool and never riding it. I mean everyone with 2 or more bike is good for the bike business and will probably buy more when they have the money, however a fad just gives you profits once. Hence a lot of MTB in the world that sit in garages. Only good news never have to worry about that lifetime warranty if they never ride it.

I bought mine back in Feb because I was getting fat and lazy surfing the internet. SPeaking of which, I am off for a ride :o

got a new felt road bike, the F30 with a F1 Scandium frame, Mavic Ksyrium SSLs, Dura Ace Shifters, FSA, Ultegra brakes, comes in at around 16 lbs...a nice deal, too.

55/Rad 08-24-04 05:36 PM

I've bought and built 2 used bikes this year and a 3rd frame that won't be finished until well into the new year. It's been a good year, knock on wood.

Yep, July, bought a Trek 5000

KevinF 08-24-04 05:45 PM

I have a custom Calfee Tetra Pro on order, but I probably won't see it until mid October or so -- right when it's getting consistently cold here in Massachusetts, and the number of possible riding days takes a big drop. I'll have to do some serious bundling up but I'll be riding somehow, someway to get miles on it before winter sets in.

There is no way a rider of my caliber deserves a frame like that, but I sure do want one. :D

pjbaz 08-24-04 06:11 PM

04 Lemond Zurich!

i'll be honest
i dunno if it was because of LA, or because I actually had cable TV this year, but TdF period was when I really started wanting a road bike. I had been mtn biking for a number of years but road biking amongst such nice backdrops was just too enticing. And the no-tax TdF sale at the local trek store was pretty nice as well as tax was another $150 or so in addition to the price i was looking at. Wanted a 2100, but reached and got a 2200.

Luckily, I got out to yosemite a few weeks later and was able to ride in some very gorgeous areas which made it all worth it :)

so yes, LA and TdF and OLN influenced me, but unlike alot of ppl locally, i've ridden atleast 3-4 times a week if not more (except one week where i was swamped with work).

bought a new carbon fiber scattante. couldn't resist for $1350! as soon as my broken bones heal from a crash(my fault, not the bike's), i'll be right back on it!

coolcamden 08-24-04 07:01 PM

I only bought a frame... but it's a De Rosa frame. :-)))

stridercc 08-24-04 07:19 PM

I said I got a new bike and I did, but it was a gift so I didn't buy it. Its a Colnago Chic with DA 10 speed. All I can say is that it corners on rails and its a dream.
