Psimets Arrived

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Psimets Arrived

My Psimet wheels arrived the other day and I'm psyched. Haven't ridden them yet, but it's supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow, so I'm going to sneak out of work a little early and give them a whirl. They're beautiful, and knock about a pound off my ride. Thanks, Rob.

I couldn't wait to mount them up with the new Conti GP400s tires that Rob recommended. Got them all pressured up to about 100 psi and.......pssssssssssss on the back wheel. Then, a few minutes later, psssssssss on the front. I'm thinking, WTF?

Well, I guess that's what happens when you try to mount tires and tubes without the benefit of spoke covers (or whatever those things are called). No harm done, other than a couple of ruined tubes and mucho embarrassment. Good thing my kid's away at college, or I'd probably never live that one down.

So, go ahead, have fun at my expense. Pride takes a hit, but I've still got a great pair of wheels under me, so I don't care.

You mean rim tape?

Specs of the wheels please.

Pics or it didn't happen, as well.

When I mounted the GP4000s, they are stiff tires. I ended up pinching a tube getting the last 3 inches of the tire installed on the rim. After the first install the GP4000s seem easier to get on and off the rim.

I took the tape off my old Xeros and put it on the 'mets. Works great. As to the wheels, pretty basic by BF's exauted standards, but here's the specs, per Rob:

"Front=Novatech Front hub laced to a Kinlin XR-270 rim 24f/2X using DT-Comp-Black spokes and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

Rear=Novatech Rear hub with Shimano freehub body laced to a Kinlin XR-300 rim 28r/2X using DT-Comp-Black spokes on the Drive Side and laced 2X using DT-Comp-Black spokes on the Non-Drive Side and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

Estimated weight should be in the neighborhood of ~1587g for the set."

They're mounted on an upgraded '08 Giant OCR-1, which ain't all that sexy (again, by BF standards), but it's my ride and I like it. I'll post a pic next time I find some white garage doors. Mine are brown. My neighbor has white ones, but I don't want to have to try to explain to him what I'm doing and why. Maybe next time they go on vacation.

Nothing wrong with a 2008 OCR! I recently bought myself a 2008 OCR C2

Enjoy the new wheels.

Anybody know what size of veloplugs you need for Kinlin XR300 rims?

This is very similar to the parts I'm buying through Psimet to do my own build. I asked him for advice and he gave me a few parts options. My wheels once built (parts haven't arrived yet) will be as follows.

Front=White Ind. H2 F silver hub laced to a Kinlin XR-270 rim 24f/2X using DT-Comp-Silver spokes and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

Rear=White Ind. H3 R silver hub with Shimano freehub body laced to a Kinlin XR-300 rim 28r/2X using DT-Comp-Silver spokes on the Drive Side and laced 2X using DT-Comp-
Silver spokes on the Non-Drive Side and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

Estimated weight should be in the neighborhood of ~1605g for the set

I'm excited to see what you think about those hubs. They were lighter, more affordable, highly recommended by Psimet, but not widely known. If they keep getting good reviews, I'd love to use them in future builds. =)

Also, how much do you weigh? I spec'ed mine with 24/28 spokes rear to be maybe a tad overbuilt for my slight 145 lb frame, but would be plenty strong for someone heavier.

I'm itching to get my parts though. I'm even pondering making some custom wheel decals for them once they're done. =) It'll probably never happen though. I'd love to advertise for Psimet over here, but I also REALLY want to build my own, so blank wheels it is.

He's a hotshot lawyer. I'm afraid he'll accuse me of trespassing and then "confiscate" my bike as evidence.

I'll come up with something visually stimulating on my ride tomorrow.

The 300's use Yellow plugs. The reds fall out.

Reds work great on my carbon rims though.

So they are endorsed by PSIMET instead of tape then. Good to know ...

My specs are close, XR-300 both front and rear, Ultegra hubs, 24 2x front 28 2x (DS & NDS) rear, DT Comp Spokes and brass nipples. I am borderline clyde though. nowhere skinny as either of you guys.

Not to hijack the thread but I just received my Psimet wheels on Monday. Specs as follows:

Front=White Ind. H2 F Silver (or black +$10) hub laced to a DT RR585 rim 28f/2X using DT-Comp-Silver spokes and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

Rear=White Ind. H3 R Silver (or black +$10) hub with Shimano freehub body laced to a DT RR585 rim 32r/3X using DT-Comp-Silver spokes on the Drive Side and laced 3X using DT-Comp-Silver spokes on the Non-Drive Side and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

Absolutely loving them so far, very smooth and a pleasure to ride.
