Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is cycling overrated?

I read in all these magazines how great cycling is, so I got a really expensive bike, and just started riding. But I get dropped on group rides and my legs hurt really bad after riding. Plus all the club riders are jerks.

Does anyone else agree that cycling is overrated?

Yes. But only becuase the sedentary population is impressed if you ride 5 miles. In under an hour.

Don't rate cycling as per who you met ,but what it does for you.. Meeting like minded cyclists will evolve as you ride . . The physical condition of those who dropped you could be the new you in years to come, if you decided that is what you want.. You certainly would not wish for their physical condition should that turn out to be your goal.. If not, just get out and ride in the fresh air.. That is addictive enough for most of us.. Just give it a try before you get all out of joint over the abilities of others.. Meanwhile just enjoy the ride and see how it pans out..

No, you have to find your style! I don't care for riding in a club but find more pleasure riding with small groups that mostly stay together.

Yep. Yep. Uh-huh. Over 2000 posts and you just started riding. My, your legs hurt. Have you ever swallowed a bug whole? It's really nasty.

Just going by your description I'd guess that you might be over rateing your cycling ability.

It's rather sad how many people take this seriously. You don't even need to see the original thread to know this one is a joke!

Isn't trolling infraction-able? Isn't it possible the selective enforcement of the rules (that are trumpeted each time there's a controversial topic) is the root of this board's difficulties?

Very true.

I know some don't approve but parody threads reproduce too rapidly.
