Your first clipless fail? Here's mine
 

I got my new pedals installed last week and other gear. I couldn't go for a ride until today because of the weird weather in Central-Cal. Anyways I get pumped up today because it's pretty sunny outside with the exception of a few clouds. I take my bike and leave my neighborhood and come to my first red light, i steadily slow down and make my stop. As I stop I forget to pop out my sole from the pedal. I make a very embarassing fall onto my side. A grandma who was taking her grandkid for a walk said, "That's what you get for stopping" in a joking manner. Of course it was nothing serious as I didn't scratch my bike or my shoes...

Another fail was when I had to cross the street (was a T intersection so I had to use the pedestrian walk) and I had to walk across because I didn't have time to pop my sole in. I probably looked like an idiot...

My first fall I had actually clipped out one foot and was looking at a map. I shifted my weight a little not really thinking about it and then proceeded to timber and slide down a hill a few feet. I had a nice big scratch from the big chainring on my calf for a week after that.

The first stop I came to after I got the pedals put on, I kept telling myself "make sure you twist your foot, make sure you twist your foot" so I twist my right foot, and it comes out of the peddle easy peasy. The only problem is I had shifted my weight to the left while I did it. So while my right leg was free, my left leg wasn't and I very slowly fell onto my left side. No scrapes or anything, but it was rather embarrassing.

I clipped and lost control and fell thje first time, I couldnt even pedal. The same day again I was going for a stop but I still didnt knew how to unclip and then...

I was up at Lake San Antonio over the weekend, not very far away. Was the weather really that much different?

In the 4 years I've been riding clipless; I never fell.
Fell one time after a few rides trying out toe clips.
Had them too tight, came to a stop sign;
wasn't able to get my foot out in time. Down I went.

Plenty of topples from attempting trackstands at lights while clipped in, especially bad because I don't actually know how to trackstand.

A couple weeks ago I was descending down a not-that-steep hill, and I spotted a pile of leaves that I wanted to whip skid through. I used my legs to begin the fishtail, and suddenly my forward foot unclipped, with my left leg floating in the air while my right leg continued to spin (because fixed gear). Guess I twisted my leg a bit too much with that one. Scary because I was nearing the bottom of the descent where I had to stop for traffic. Miraculously, I stayed on the bike, clipped back in, and came to a full stop right before the intersection. As soon as I got home I upped the tension a couple of clicks, now everything feels nice and secure.

Yeah it was pretty cold and raining most of the time. The forecast for today was for it to rain all day, but it stopped early in the morning.
From now on out it'll only get hot.

It was cold and sprinkling on Sunday when I rode. "couldn't" is crazy talk. HTFU.

My first clipless fail was about two weeks after I had gotten my pedals. Was heading on the sidewalk outside my apt complex. Pulled up to the crosswalk button on my left, unclipped with my right foot as I was used to seeing everyone I rode with unclip their right foot. Leaned little by little and stretched my left arm to hit the button.... until I realized my error, was too late, and watched myself in what felt like forever fall on my side. Chain fell off.

My most recent fail: Leaning my bike to stand on its own on the side of a building with the rear wheel sticking out, and the wind ended up pushing it and making it fall over. Slight scuff on the left shifter and rear skewer, but other than that it's fine. Now I don't care if my bike gets any more damage...

Yeah i hear ya, i constantly go to Fresno to work, and it gets pretty hot! Im from phoenix, so I am used to it, but ive never really liked it.

I was born there, however, i have never lived there.


ok, this was pointless:notamused:....anyways.

About a month after I got my first clipless pedals. I was at the intersection of Rock Creek Park Trail and Rock Creek Parkway as shown here. As you can see the path is sloped sideways here. I was on the right side of the pic traveling to the left. I stopped at the intersection and unclipped. Unfortunately for me, it had just stopped raining and the ground was quite wet. When I put my left foot down, I had no traction with my funky LOOK cleats and I proceeded to do a painful spread-eagle/fail and ended up with the bike on top of me as I rolled off to the left in a ball of shame. After which ensued a whole bunch of honking from passing motorists and some chuckles from passing cyclists. That was nearly 8 years ago but I still remember it like it was yesterday :lol:

When you only have shorts and shortsleeves you try avoiding cold weather :p.

Yeah Rona Fresno is always in the extremes in weather.

Oh man, I hate that. I've got the same cleats and that almost happened to me today as well haha.

You have to attempt it without actually knowing how to do it at least once...

First day clipless. After work. Dead tired. Forgot. Poof.

I had six inches of snow in my yard this morning. Yesterday, it was 70 degrees and dry. I live just North of Lancaster.

Anybody have gotten to a dead point in the cranks where u can't pedal to the front neither to the back and u are clipped basically stopped and there is nothing else to do more than let it go and fall? :)

It's easier to fall when your unaware.

My first time I went out to test the feel of the clipless pedals out to some hills nearby, then when i came back in my garage i stopped, forgetting i had them on.

My 2nd time was with my friend, when we both reached a stop sign, and we waited for cars to clear, but the cars weren't clearing and i was rolling a little too fast so i had to brake right away. I fell.

The third time was a disappointment, it was 5 months after i got them. One of my friends told me to drop by her and her other friend at a Library so i did and they came out and rushed toward me, they were in my way so i had to clip out very fast, which was successful, but i leaned the other way and fell.

I still believe I'm going to fall over again...especially in windy conditions.

I had a few close calls, but I have my SPD pedals set at the lightest tension. Maybe that helps.

I fell into a bush on the ride home after buying them. Someone screamed, asked if I was okay. Another group in a car laughed.
