Triple ?
i have a 53/39 right now and i feel at the same time that 53 is not enough on the flats and that 39 is too much on the climbs ( i am fat, climbs are difficult )
also at the same time shifting from 39 to 53 is quite sketchy. i would ideally want something like 56/44/34 i mean i would be fine with just 56/34 but somehow i don't think that would work ? or should i simply lose some fat ass and go for 55/42 ? |
53 is not enough on the flats??!!?? My suspicion is your cadence is too low.
|
You're spinning out a 53x12 on flat ground?
|
you're doing it wrong.
|
a 53x11 at just 90 rpm will get you to 34 mph. if you can't pedal at 90 rpm you need to work on that. if you can consistently ride at 34 mph on the flats you need to go pro.

the OP needs 60in wheels
|
A triple will not be enough for you. This is what you need, 4 chainrings.
http://www.mgagnon.net/velo/pedalier4.en.shtml Then go 34-44-54-64. Problem solved. |
This is today's thread of the day I bet.

Reminds me of this woman I used to see riding once in a while, grinding up hills in the big ring about 40 rpm. I slowed down once, chatted a bit, gently explained the benefit of a lower gear and spinning a bit more. She was convinced she was doing it the right way ..... waddya gonna do ? I think the sayings about "leading a horse to water" and "beating a dead horse" could be cleverly combined somehow. |

Glad it's not just me. I read the OP and thought, "You're spinning out a 53 often enough that you need a bigger gear, but you can't climb? WTF?" |

1. Switching to an 11-28 cassette would be cheaper (you don't say what you have now though)
2. Learn to spin, lots of folks around here use a 50x11 top end. however, if umd is correct I don't think we'll hear back on any of these points. |
Yes, by al means, ge the triple!:thumb:
I have a double with a 53/39-12/25. I can easily spin ot the big gear onthe flats. But with my triple, 53/39/32-12/25, I have much more on the high end for the flats and can stretch an extra 7 mph out of it!:roflmao2: |

let's kill him by clogging his arteries!

I'm convinced neurosport is a sociopath based on his own admission that he didn't recognize his behavior as a troll until someone pointed it out to him combined with the fact that it doesn't seem to have changed the way he posts either.
Or maybe he's just a really exceptional troll. |
