Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't like "cold" and I'm slower in cold than warm weather. Went out for a ride anyway. I started riding in June after my broken shoulder healed. I'm trying to hit 1500 for this year. https://app.strava.com/rides/2768604.

Today's ride. Slow, weather was better though. Nice to finally start getting some long(er) rides in.

Today's ride for me:https://app.strava.com/rides/2761850
Was sick so decided to do a short slow ride with the local club.

Rode back home from the ride start: https://app.strava.com/rides/2763180
Tossed in Sapra street which is a little more than 14% grade for ~.75 miles.
Did NOT feel good going up that in my condition.

I suck at anything but flat. And the 28 mile ride on Sunday with 1150 feet of elevation beat me up. The flappy wind breaker didn't help. I don't even like CA cold. It sucks to be old, overweight AND female. But getting year round exercise: Priceless.

Had a great ride today with a couple of buddies. Took it sort of easy and just enjoyed the warm weather (37 degrees and some Sun).

Worst ride in a pretty long time. Over 10 minutes slower up Fernwood than last time I did it!
Woke up late and didn't have time to eat breakfast.

Nice little Christmas ride over to my parents' house. Upper 30's and it felt great. I'm really enjoying the nice weather we are having.

Went to visit my old friends. We went up to Crystal Lake up Highway 39 in Azusa. Nice ride. Didn't really go fast or anything, just a slow calm ride....except for the 20 mile downhill.
~70miles with ~7000ft climbing

Had a nice ride 47 mile ride with some friends today and made a new one. Weather was perfect for some bike games (low to mid 40's). I spent most of the day trying to keep up but still had a blast.

Congrats on reaching 1,500 miles. Now, set a goal for double that in 2012.

trying to build endurance

Hey everyone. I got the garmin 500 yesterday, and I am loving it. I went out today for a little while https://connect.garmin.com/activity/137494917. I am having trouble with a spot a little above my knee. That spot always gets sore, and the rest of my legs are fine . I hate that all of a sudden this one spot has to make me stop riding. I know that I must be doing something wrong if only one spot on my leg is sore after a measly 6 miles. I don't know if this is the right spot for someone to help me make a change, but it would be appreciated, as I hate only being able to go 6 miles. Thanks

Congrats on getting back on a bike. That's pretty high cadence. I would ask your question on the "Training and Nutrition" forum. But remember that free advice is often worth what you paid for it. My knees don't hurt, but they sound like rice krispies with milk when I go up and down stairs.

Are you using clipless pedals? Maybe your cleat positioning isn't right.
