Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll likely be switching to a Garmin soon. let me know what you think of this. Compare it to Garmin or Strava. Obviously I never went 230mph.

That's Florida for you. Going below sea level counts as a hill right?

Nice group night ride this evening. Little easier pace than usual but still a great ride.

Today's Ride: https://app.strava.com/rides/3877653

The strava app on my phone stopped at one point so the strava stats are skewed.
Here is what I got from my bike computer:
Distance: 45 miles
Average Speed: 14.5 mph
Average Heart Rate: 162 BPM
Elevation: Not really sure a bit under 5K probably.

Today's group road ride with 14 of us: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/147163223 55 miles, including some looping back to help tow shelled riders in the wind. Pace was medium, great for February with not everyone in form yet. I need to work on my cadence a bit... I'm a gear-masher but 77 average is not so great.

The previous night, I took out my winter commuter/mountain bike, >40 pounds, with 1000-gram studded tires and bulging panniers, and knocked out 2.5 hours of serious climbs up to 15%-18% grade, getting home at 11PM: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/146930230 Considering there was only a 13-hour break between the two rides, I felt very good today. Time for a rest day

First time I've done the big climb on this route from both directions on the same day. Really bad headwind on the climb from west-east, at one point a gust hit me and it felt like the bike actually moved backwards a bit. That sucked. Felt great overall though.

Stats: 61.2 Miles, 3,634 ft climbed, 3:40:11 moving time.

LSD ride today.
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/143272140

Keeping the HR in such a narrow band is hard work... especially with a tailwind.
You're doing LSD at 80% Max HR? Sounds like pretty high intensity for base work.

I managed 504 miles in 34 hours in January, albeit about 40% of that was on the trainer. Still the most "miles" and hours I've ever done in a calendar month. This was probably the best ride recently (explored the cities bike trail system):

What exactly does LSD mean? Because I only know one LSD, and I don't think it's really safe to ride a bike while doing it....

75-80%
Not base training. My target is to keep HR 70-80% for 20hrs for a 500km next month.

Did the CVC Social Ride today, it was faster than usual, but not too fast. I was still kinda sore from yesterday.

https://app.strava.com/rides/3909234

Distance: 23.5 Miles
Elevation Gain: 1,487 ft

I still felt like riding a bit more, so I rode back home. Rode up Sapra(Average 12% grade get's around 16% in some places(maybe a bit more)). Also rode up the surrounding streets which was fun. Most of them were pretty steep.

https://app.strava.com/rides/3911649

Distance: 9.2 Miles
Elevation Gain: 1,307 ft.

Tonight after work I did another cold training ride (around freezing) on my studded-tire mountain bike, which weighed in at 44 pounds on departure. I did 50 miles in about 3.5 hours and hit a variety of hills with ~400-500ft elevation gain each, one of which has a couple 18% grades.

All things considered, it went pretty well... I was munching fig-bar cookies and drinking some energy drink, and could've thrown on one final 450ft climb on the way home, but it was already 10:30PM and I have to work tomorrow. Plus my feet were cold.

Now I can eat pizza 100% guilt-free
