Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A 30 mile loop through Albuquerque:
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/42745662

A lot of these loops include side streets with a lot of stop lights and stop signs... so it's hard to keep a relatively high speed going through most of it.

Not a long ride, but a tough one for an out of shape guy that is just getting back into the sport. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/42780267

Fun weekend of riding. Headed east to the Laurel Ridge area. First time going back to back days. Nice scenery and some great descents. Also had the first clipless pedal fall at mile 33.12 on Sunday. Laughing at my own stupidity helped get over the top of the ridge.

85 MI. Great ride today Not to hot and No rain and no flats.

CIMG2477..jpgCIMG2475..jpgCIMG2476..jpgCIMG2474..jpg

Whoo Hoo!! No rain today. Lot of debris in the low-lying areas of the road and had to be careful in the dark through that section.

I never get tired of the Arizona sunrises behind 4 Peaks Mt.

I've done that ride (well, most of it)! That north part of tramway is quite a climb when you're a flatlander from sea level...

I really want to ride up to the crest when I'm out there next time. Been on my todo list for a while.

Yeah, i do the ride up tramway once or twice a week. Even for someone who does it frequently it still sucks, lol.

The Crest ride is something else on my list for this summer too.

Got my Edge 500 in the mail last night, so I took it for a quick 30 min ride before I had some other stuff to do.

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/42930776

Any reccomendations for figuring out a max heart rate so I can get a good idea of my zones?

I'm not sure how to find max heart rate, but an average heart rate of 185 seems rather high to me

Thats kind of what I was thinking, and I wasn't really pushing myself too hard. I mean, it wasn't easy, but I wasn't killing myself.

First day of cadence training. I was trying to keep my cadence as high as I could throughout the ride.

Don't worry about your max HR, do an LTHR test, calculate your zones off that, and enter them in manually.

Some people just have a higher HR. I wouldn't worry about it. Wear the strap around for a day and get an idea of what your HR is at rest, and at various effort levels.

One thing to watch for us the Garmin HR straps tend to flake out easily and report erroneous data to the device. I've had two do this from some internal wiring problem. They also are rather prone to 2.4 GHz interference which I've run into at times.

Your data doesn't look like that was happening, though. If you ever see stair-step like pattern in your data, it's probably interference or the strap going crazy. But sometimes I've had mine report a pretty solid 30 BPM higher than reality for the entire duration of the ride. Usually when that starts happening it's a sign that HR strap is near death. But since yours is new...

When I was done with my ride I left it on for a little bit, and it dropped back down to 60, so I'm pretty positive the HR strap is good.

From Saturday. Trying out a new route. I dont' think there was a continuous flat stretch more than a few hundred meters. Very rough roads. Got lost a few times, had a nice stretch on gravel. Took it easy mostly because I haven't done a ride around 5 hours in some time.

The garmin had some problem and didn't register the first stretch, thus the discrepancy in the start/end location and also the avg. speed and moving avg. speed.

Link doesn't work. You have to click on the activity and copy that URL. It should have "activity" in it
