Red vs Di2
If you were going to buy, or build up a new bike, and price was a secondary concern, would you go with Sram Red or Di2? (I don't want Campy simply because I have too many Shimano wheels, and cassettes to switch to different spacing.)
Weight favors Red. Bling favors Di2. Shifting appears to favor Di2. I know one poster on here replaced his Di2 group with Red. Anybody else used both? |
this thread should be good.
as for my 2 cents - i havent heard too many complaints about the top end groups, red, record or DA shifting poorly, so if red is : a)lighter b)cheaper c)more reliable (strictly from a traditional and a availability/interchangeability of parts standpoint) it would be a no-brainer for me. |
Di2, although I'd be tempted to get Campy SR11 even though it's inferior in every way (except looks perhaps) just to have a Campy bike.

It's really not fair to throw price out of the equation. It is the main factor between these two.
I would go with Red. |

i have a serious question about Di2 - re:battery pack.
i see some of the bikes have the battery mounted below the BB, on a chainstay, under the bottle cage, etc. are these battery packs totally waterproof, and if so, will they remain waterproof after repeated charging (presumably having to open some type of "cap"). |
What a weird leap. What's wrong with regular dura ace as am option?

I would go with Red. True. However, I think the price difference is dropping, and if, or when, I do this it would be to get a very nice bike that I'll keep for at least 5 years plus. So a $1500 price difference wouldn't dissuade me from Di2. However, if there's no real reason to go Di2, I certainly wouldn't mind pocketing the difference. Hence, price is a secondary concern, not price is no object. |

BTW, has anyone noticed how overpriced SRAM Red is getting, esp. after last year's TdF?
A lot of places online sell DA 7900 for around the same price as SRAM Red now. Price/weight was one of the big selling points of SRAM Red over DA or SR11 (or at least I thought it was). |
Campy. Both of my other bikes are Campy equipped and I'd like to keep it that way! :thumb:

DI2. It's so much better than anything else out there it's not even funny.

I don't own Di2 or Red. But it seems to me that people gripe about Red and not about Di2 (except for the price).

Di2 is quiet for the most part. I ride with a guy who has it. I don't hear him downshift or upshift as easily as I do from manuel shifting. I still am a SRAM guy and would take Red. I think that DI2 will be more costly on maintenance down the road.

Given your 2 choices, Red. But I wouldn't buy either. I'd go Campy. Neither the SRAM and Shimano hoods fit my hands. Campy does.

DI2 for me. If you are a sprinter wouldn't you prefer Red for their tucked in shift lever function?
