Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

possibly silliest question ever.

if you are worried then go for a shorter ride.

to answer your query, I don't believe it is possible to die from "bonking" (defined as depletion of glycogen) per se but you could die from heat stroke or dehydration.

Depends on where and how fast you ride.

I would hate to see such a well-recieved BF member go so early. Don't do it. You could, and probably will, die.

all the food and water you take along would add so much weight you probably would bonk sooner. Just eat a real big breakfast just before you leave and you should be fine.

Depends on what you mean by Bonk.

1. Water intoxication can kill. This happens when you drink plain water and run out of electrolytes.
2. Heat Stroke can kill. This happens when you run out of water and your thermoregulation breaks down.
3. Heat Exhaustion and mild water intoxication could mess up your judgment, etc and cause a crash that could kill you.

Instead of riding your bike into the ground, ride yourself into the ground!

you forgot to list hyponautremia it's when you get too many electrolytes and it'll kill you, one more reason to leave the water bottles at home on your century.

Yeah, I died after bonking once. Very nasty business. Won't be making that mistake again, let me tell you.

Road cycling is a sport of attrition. You're objective is to inflict the bonk of death or perish yourself.
