So is this bike worth it?

My friend has this crazy nice bike weighs almost nothing and it like full carbon. He has it listed on craigslist for 1299$ and he would sell it to me for 850$

Is it worth it? I think i am getting an awesome deal.

KiuBWhy 04-17-10 09:54 PM

Yeah...I wouldn't pay $850 for that. That's just me though.

Pkmnwill 04-17-10 09:59 PM

it is listed 1300 and has 3k spent on it so i assume its worth it plus i already test road it

rouleour 04-17-10 10:03 PM

i think you can get better deal than that! or a better bike for 850! but just my opinion

foresthill 04-17-10 10:40 PM

Its not full carbon. It's an aluminum frame with carbon seatstays. It's not a bad deal, but nothing special, either.

To contrast, several years back, we bought for my wife a well-used, but in very good shape lightspeed with 6/4 Ti frame, full 9 speed dura ace and open pro/WI wheels for $900.

any recommendations from anyone? something good for 800ish

KiuBWhy 04-17-10 11:53 PM

Keep looking on CL. A killer deal will pop up eventually.

Offer $600. That bike has some old stuff on it.

On ebay i doubt that bike would fetch $450. likewise, for $850 you could buy a lot more bike there. Especially if you don't need a popular brand name.
3k invested? Must have gold rims.

thehammerdog 04-18-10 09:56 AM

Holmes that bike is OLD the rings are shot I would say $500 max because after 1 year it will most likely explode........

I just bought a 2009 Specialized Allez for $950 brand new from the shop. 10-speed 105, compact 105 crankset.

That bike is not full carbon, has old Dura-Ace on it, and that crankset does not look right. I bet you could find a good closeout bike that shifts better, is lighter and stiffer for the same money. Your 'friend' is trying to put one over on you.

Either that or he just doesn't have reasonable expectations for a sale price. Most people expect to be able to sell a used bike for much more than it's worth.

I recently bought a 2007 Giant OCR C3 for $750 from the owner of the local LBS, it is a CF bike with 10 speed 105 with compact 105 crank. I was luck to get a great deal for a great bike. I agree with the other comments I won't spend more than $400 to $450 for the bike. MHO

I can't speak for the rest of the bike, but I have that saddle, and I love it!

oilman_15106 04-18-10 02:46 PM

Unless it is the exact frame size you ride, pile up $850 and light it on fire.

roccobike 04-18-10 06:42 PM

Last year I picked up a Lemond, Maillot Juane, full carbon OCLV frame, all Campy Record for $700.
If that bike was a full carbon frame, maybe it would be worth the $850. No way it's worth $1299. I think you need to walk away from that one.
