Tifosi Optics

Anyone here know anything about them and/or use/have experience with them?

jks84 04-18-10 05:18 PM

I have a pair of tifosi dolomite's and I love them. They were the only pair I could get that fit my face right. They are very affordable too.

Shuke 04-18-10 06:23 PM

I have a pair of Tifosi Pave's. Polarized, almost indestructible, come with interchangeable lenses, under $100...what more could you ask for?

JPChap 04-18-10 06:52 PM

Alright, thanks for the responses guys, also, do you know the rough size the glasses would fit, because on their site they say things like " fits medium to large faces" but what is considered medium to large?

dizzy101 04-18-10 07:02 PM

Good brand. Cheap, reliable, good replacement policy.

As far as sizing is concerned, you can't really know until you try 'em on. But you can guestimate--big noggin or small

jdeane4 04-18-10 07:07 PM

I really recommend finding a shop that carries them. Its best to try on the glasses as they do vary in size. I have a pretty good size head and went with Dolomites. They fit great. The sides and nose piece have rubber to help stay on your head.

Same experience here... for the price they are hard to beat.

I just bought a pair of Tifosi Logic last week and I love them so far. Aside from the interchangeable lenses, they also came with a soft pouch which doubles as a lens cleaning cloth, and a rigid zippered clamshell case. My head/face size is on the larger end of medium, so I think the product description is accurate, although in trying various models on in-person, some seemed to fit differently than others. The ends [earpieces?] can be bent to better fit your head contour.

My only complaint is that I was stupid trying to remove the lens the first time and almost broke off one of the little tabs. The instructions can be found on the manufacturer's web site. Done properly, it doesn't take much force. I paid $55 at a LBS and now look at least 50% faster.

Alright, thanks for the responses guys. Ive been looking at the Logic, Dolomite, and the Q3. Another question- at your retailers, did you find that they had most colors available or were only select ones available?

WCroadie 04-18-10 07:54 PM

I have these http://www.tifosioptics.com/images/dolomite/frame05.jpg
Great glasses they just don't fit my face right, I'll sell you them for 1/2 price plus shipping if you want. I only used them about 4-5 times.

foresthill 04-18-10 08:00 PM

I've got two pairs of Tifosi Alpe's (one fototec, one normal tint), and they've been great. Really comfortable, affordable, and they fit really close to my temples, which I really like.

Issaquatch 04-18-10 08:06 PM

I have a pair of Tifosi Slips with the fototec lenses. I'm very happy with them. I've owned Oakleys before and can't ever see myself paying that much for glasses again when these work fine and only cost $60.

It kinda depends on the rep. Tifosi has a "Keep Full" program, where stores get a small discount if they place periodical orders to keep the display full. Usually, the rep comes in and does this. The rep will also usually provide a "Recommended First Order" which covers the most popular models and colours. The display holds 44 pairs, if I remember correctly (I haven't placed my first order yet), with 4 pairs in "reserve", so most shops have a pretty decent selection if the rep has done his job correctly.

Alright, cool, thanks for the response. Also, this is more of a preference point that effectiveness, but what is your guys take on the full frame vs. half frame? As well as the thin sides vs. the thicker ones. Do either of these make a big difference while riding/wearing the glasses?

ravenmore 04-18-10 08:43 PM

I posted a thread about this a long time ago. Great optics - so so quality on the frames. I'd buy them again.

Yellowbeard 04-18-10 09:23 PM

I have the $60 Envys. Hard & soft cases and three pairs of lenses. I've borrowed Oakleys and couldn't tell any difference in optical quality. Frames aren't fancy, but perfectly comfortable.

roadiejorge 04-18-10 09:29 PM

I had a pair that lasted me a few years with no problem at all but when they broke I thought I'd give Rudy Project a try and have been really happy with the photochromic lenses since I don't have to switch them out.

WCroadie 04-19-10 07:30 AM

I prefer a "half frame" which is why the dolomite's don't work for me. They fog up, the way they sit on my face does not allow for sufficient air to enter from the bottom. Which is why I'll sell them. I also have a pair of the ventoux's, they fog up as well but not as bad. I want to try the pave's and see if they work for me.

IMO Tifosi's are great glasses at an affordable price.

CrimsonKarter21 04-19-10 07:36 AM

Great glasses, but stay away from the non-performance glasses (like the Vogel) because they may fit your face well, but on the bike they're a nightmare.
The Dolomites and Slips are great for the money. The Fototec lenses are really nice. IMO, the lens qality is really high on all Tifosis.

Unfortunately, the places that do sell Tifosi in Belgium all charge outrageous prices, and you can get a pair of Giro Haviks for a few Euro more.

mzd 04-19-10 09:27 AM

i have the Q2 (same as Q3 i believe) and a smallish face and they fit me great. they would fit a "face size" up as well. i will say they are a great company - a couple years back i dropped them on a ride and the lens got scratched up pretty bad. i contacted customer support to see if i could buy a replacement lens and they just asked me to send the glasses back with $10 s/h. they sent me back a brand new pair! so even their cheaper ($40) frames come with a great warranty.

amillhench 04-19-10 09:36 AM

Love 'em.

Vinci 04-19-10 09:46 AM

I have 2 pairs of Vogels. One with the fototec lens and one with a light smoked lens. Both are fantastic, and the lack of any frame means I'm not looking around anything when tucked in the drops. You can't beat them for $40 (plain lens) to $60 (fototec). Zappos sells them too, so it's free shipping both ways.

msh1283 04-19-10 09:48 AM

I have a pair of the ironically named "Slips". As soon as they get sweat on them, they won't stay in place. And the middle plastic piece is designed such that it makes it impossible to see unless you crank your head up to the point of neck pain once they've slipped down at all.

noise boy 04-19-10 10:39 AM

I have a pair of Tifosi Tyrants (I love the names :) ) I have been very happy with them so far. Hard to say on the face size part of it, I tried on a bunch before settling on these.

urbanknight 04-19-10 12:30 PM

I bought a pair after reading so many good things about them on this forum, but was honestly not impressed nor disappointed. One of the lenses didn't fit right, so I had to have it replaced - which they wanted me to pay $10 for until I complained that I shouldn't pay for to warranty brand new pair (the shop didn't have a second pair in stock). The finish on the frames has worn down on the top of the temple pieces in only 1 1/2 years. The adjustable nose piece is a nice touch for its price point, and they are comfortable. Overall, they're what I would expect from a pair of sunglasses I paid $50 for.
