Which training wheelset to keep?
A good pal of mine and I are trying to work on how much to compensate him for giving me a hand with some flooring. He'd like a wheelset and I have a choice of wheelsets to give him.
One has Ultegra hubs and Mavic CP33 rims, and has practically new Continental Ultra Gatorskins. The wheelset is about 8 years old but still has a lot of life in it. This wheelset has an Ultegra 12-27 cassette. The other is an old Rolf Vector Pro wheelset, with a very worn Michelin ProRace rear tire and a quite new Vredestein Fortezza on the front. This wheelset has a Dura Ace 11-23 cassette. The rims also have a lot of life in them. The cassettes are comparable, I reckon. What is the approx. worth of these, in your opinion? |
I would jump on a deal of $150 for the first set. I would feel good about 175 and if I was listing them online I would ask for 250 and see what offers I would get understanding that alot of the value is in 2 new gatorskins. How much milage on the cassette? (I am aslso assumig 10sp)
Don't know enoughabout Rolfs to make a guess on that set. |
Both are 9 speed, not 10. Later I'll put a 10 speed cassette on the wheelset I'm keeping, whichever that is...

No one else has an opinion on these wheelsets? C'mon, your opinions matter to me!

I'd want the Mavic wheelset myself. I've had both and didn't care for the Rolf's. They were tanks. The Mavic's with the Ultegra hubs are smooth as butter, but not exactly lightweights either. I liked the look of the Rolf's better, but didn't like how they rode.

Ultegra CXP33's were had for (Colorado Cylcist) $200 a year or two ago, so an 8 year old set would be worth $50.
