How particular are you about the color of your bike?

I recently placed an order for a Cannondale CAAD9 5 in charcoal and when it came in it was the blue:

What would you do?

Go here to see the difference:

BillyD 04-19-10 06:55 PM

Well personally I like the blue. But if you want charcoal, you want charcoal!

Reggieb 04-19-10 06:56 PM

If you want the charcoal, I would say get it replaced. Get what you like more! Some people will value color more than others. Those of us who have put up bikes in the Hot or Not thread probably all care a lot about color, haha! Some people just won't, it just comes down to how much you want the color you ordered.

10 Wheels 04-19-10 06:56 PM

You won't care about the color when you ride it.

wstandis 04-19-10 06:58 PM

Yeah - but to get the charcoal I would have to wait until the 3rd week of May, which I don't see myself doing.

merlinextraligh 04-19-10 06:59 PM

How long will it take to get it replaced? How much do you value having it the way you want, versus riding it now?

Personally, if I had another nice bike to ride, I'd be willing to wait a week or two. If I didn't have another bike, I probably wouldn't wait at all.

YMMV.

and oh yeah - Right now (most beautiful time of year)i am bikeless

I like the blue but I would push for what you ordered. Will they give you the blue one at a discount?

This is exactly my thought

If I had an aluminum bike I would probably bead-blast the paint off.

Current bike is brushed Ti. Looks great. No paint.

But that's just my opinion, you should get what you ordered and paid for, or the shop should do something very nice (i.e. discount) to make you feel "whole."

10 Wheels 04-19-10 07:02 PM

Ask the shop to give you a New white helmet and then go ride.

thebigx 04-19-10 07:04 PM

It's just me but, if I buy something and it doesn't come the way I ordered it, then it's getting replaced. Probably call up the shop and ask to speak to the manager. It's not your fault you got something that you didn't order.

Why keep something that you didn't order? If you wanted blue, you probably would've ordered blue. Your purchase was for a charcoal colored bike. If on the notes, you said something along the lines of "It doesn't matter what color, as long as I don't have to wait", then you got what you wanted.

Just my thoughts...

wstandis 04-19-10 07:10 PM

here's the next question - what if it had a small spec of paint missing where the fork meet the head-tube? in the back about the size of a piece of rice?

kindablue 04-19-10 07:14 PM

I'm w/the OP - I really like the charcoal paint job. However, I'm too much of a wus, and I'd feel bad about making the lbs order another one. I'd just stick with the blue one until the color grew on me (its nice, just not charcoal nice :p).

Walter 04-19-10 07:26 PM

I used to be pretty picky and preferred red but I'm riding Ti now and can't really talk about color anymore except for decals. :p

I like the blue but if charcoal floats your boat then you need to think about what Merlinextralight posted above.

Walter 04-19-10 07:26 PM

double

aham23 04-19-10 07:28 PM

i like red and black. i have a red and black bike. i would not ride a yellow and green bike. i do not like yellow and green. later.

ls01 04-19-10 07:28 PM

Stop compromising you are the customer, and the customer is always right. The shop should make this right for you without a big hassle. Its not your mistake.

RT 04-19-10 07:35 PM

I am sick when it comes to this. I frankly don't care what color the bike is as long as it isn't the green that they made optional on the Trek 1.5. My bike is silver and black, and after adding red bar tape, I had to get red bottle cages and red tires. Oh, and black cables instead of stainless. It's like the rug in The Dude's house - it pulled the whole room together.

Cat4Lifer 04-19-10 07:39 PM

I'd say I'm pretty particular about the color of my bike.
I'd send it back to get what I asked and paid for.

TnDiamondback 04-19-10 07:45 PM

The dealer I bet is picky about the color of your money, green. You wanted charcoal, you deserve charcoal, myself I prefer red.

wstandis 04-19-10 07:47 PM

It is not the LBS - they will do whatever I ask. They just said I cant get the Charcoal for about a month.

sakonnetclip 04-19-10 07:51 PM

Do you really care at all what any of us think about the color of your bike?

-spence

wstandis 04-19-10 07:52 PM

Is that the question I asked?
