Pointy end of Sea Otter Classic

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pointy end of Sea Otter Classic

A while ago some people said they wanted to see any updates to videos I made. This is a video from this weekend that includes a series of attacks that led to the winning break. I didn't make it (sorry in advance for the 33 leakage)

Was that a lapped rider joining in on the forward group? Maybe a caught breakee? Wouldn't a lapped rider get yelled at for doing that?

Your video started and it was immediately the corkscrew and I knew I was going to love it. THE one track I would do anything to drive on (and well, ride on too).

Just watched the end. Minute 7, and the response - wow. Remarkable how the pack just gave up.

no, we didn't pass any lapped riders.

there were about 10 of us going back and forth barely (maybe 2-3 seconds) off the front of the field. not really a gap, but enough of a separation that it was usually the same 10 guys involved in the fight with an occasional rider from the field joining in.

Man that is a pretty awesome vid, OP.

It is insane to see how some of those people have that burst of power (especially that Yahoo! guy). I've been at the Laguna Seca raceway a few times to watch the car races, can only imagine how much fun it would be on a bike!

Did you by any chance see anyone from Woodcreek High School ? I know their coach was in the Sea Otter, but don't know which race exactly.

i didn't see anyone from there, but it's a huge event with hundreds of participants in lots of races and recreational rides (road and dirt).

Bombing down the corkscrew IS cool...and, as fun as it looks on the video, it actually doesn't do the amount of fun it is justice.

BTW, the climb up the Rahal straight used to be even tougher IMO before they "shaved" the top off a couple of years ago so that the GP motorbikes wouldn't go airborne . It used to have a little "kick" at the very end just before dropping into the corkscrew that was a real leg breaker ...
