wearing mismatched jersey and shorts....big no no?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you don't mind being an eyesore, it's not a big deal. I do, however, appreciate riders who make the effort of matching up and looking good.

(seriously how hard is it to do laundry?)
it's actually not a problem of doing the laundry, I was in the clearance section of hammer nutrition and they had one hell of a deal for their 2009 kit combo. It as like $60 for the jersey and bib, but they called me today, said they're out of the jersey but can still sell me the bib, so at $30 for the bib, i said sure. so now I was thinking of getting the 2010 jersey with the 2009 bib, and hence the question of mismatched jersey and shorts!

Personally, I wouldn't wear a Trek Jersey with Giant shorts while I am Sitting on my Specialized. But other than that, to each is own and function over fashion.

Actually you might want to check with your "sponsors" to make sure that you wont violate your license agreement.

I personally don't care for the billboard look and wear plain colored jerseys. I would never wear the jersey of a team I wasn't on and I'm sure if they could see my fredly fat self they wouldn't want me to either.

But hey, If you get out and ride and go fast enough nobody will see you for very long anyway.

I always laugh at the guys who show up in matching kits, especially if their socks match their kits, that's the best. Fashion on a bike always makes me chuckle, unless you are really fast or sponsored, then I don't laugh quite as much, I just get dropped.

Seriously? You're worried because one is a 2009 model and one is a 2010 model? They're both red/black/white so that counts as matching in my book. Mismatched would be wearing a blue/yellow striped jersey with silver/green polka dotted shorts or some other equally hilarious combination

You mean you have shorts and jerseys that match?
I have to work on that one.

I don't have any "kits". I have some black shorts and bibs and jerseys in some different colors, all plain with no sponsor stuff on them, so I guess I never "match".

Don't do it. You don't want to look like you're more concerned with getting in your mileage than doing laundry.

Me neither, that goes for any sport. I don't wear football, baseball, curling jerseys etc.

I might wear a Breathless Agony or Ride Around the Bear jersey after completing the events but I aint paying $80 for a shirt!

Nobody cares except the fashion police. I do not know why dudes would spend so much time worrying about what other dudes are wearing anyway. just ride and let the fashion police write you a ticket.

Everyone looks stupid in bicycle gear anyway - unless they are riding. It does not matter at all if you "match", unless you are actually sponsored and your sponsors (those paying for you to ride) get pissed off. Otherwise - do whatever you want. Wear SRAM jerseys and Shimano shorts. Be crazy.

What if you are wearing full Cervelo Test Team kit while riding a Specialized bike? (saw a guy actually wearing that two weeks ago)

I actually feel more like a dork when I DO match. Yesterday I wore hammer jersey, hammer bibs and hammer socks. Luckily nobody I ride with even cares or said anything.

What is it about roadies that make them so self-conscious about absolutely everything when they're on a bike? (The bike, clothes, AVERAGE SPEED, etc.)
