time cleat cover
Does anyone make a cover for time cleats?
|
Chungachanga,
I don't know about covers, but you might check out the cleat pontoons nashbar.com sells for $3.95. I have ordered some and should get them today or tomorrow. Based on the SPD road cleats I have seen, these are probably a little metal base with rubber blocks on each end. They bolt between cleat and sole on any of the SPD-type (two screw) cleats. The two "pontoons" then, I hope, allow you to walk in the shoes without the cleats touching the floor. Give me a day or two to get mine and try them so I can report back to you. For $3.95 I thought I'd give them a try for my Egg Beater cleats which look very similar to the Time cleats. Regards, Raymond |
The Nashbar "pontoons" came in. They are not just the pontoons but Wellgo SPD cleats and the pontoons. Unfortunately, although they are separate pieces the cleats and pontoons will pretty much only work with each other. The pontoons are not "universal". The little piece of metal on which they are mounted attaches into the middle of the pontoon, ie the pontoon is molded onto the metal. The cleats have a recess to accept the metal strip. I tried using the pontoons with my Egg Beater cleats. I could mount them OK, but the cleats could not click into the pedals. Guess I'll have to wait until the official Egg Beater road cleats come out in a month or so.
These things were so cheap it's not worth sending them back. If anyone is using SPD with road shoes and wants these I will send them at no charge. Don't reply to this message; email me at RainmanP@att.net Regards, Raymond |
