Pulled the trigger on my new wheelset!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My Trek came with Bontrager Race Lites. I now have GP4000s on my Soul S4., but have had two fatal flats on them in 6 weeks. If this current set of GP4000s do not last, I will go back to the Bontragers. The Race Lites were a good balance of good handling, flat resistant, and price.

Agreed, but I will say, they are TERRIBLE in the rain. All three times I ended up on the ground were on Race Lites crossing over some wet spots.

Think I am going to stop by the local bike shop tomorrow and see what i can grab. They sent me the shipment info on the wheels already! I may have these things sooner than I thought!

I have ridden my Race Lites many times in the rain and they are as good as the GP4000s. The first rule of riding in the rain is to slow your inputs.

be careful the bike buying bug doesn't take hold after the wheel purchase. I just bought some wheels and it resulted in a further purchase of groupset and frame just so I could use up a spare seatpost/stem/handlebar.

This literally made me LOL. This sounds exactly like something I am in the middle of myself. Now that I'll have an extra set of wheels lying around, one step closer.

For me, I think it's just cause I am not married. I can see this being cured by that and a kid, however, who knows, if she a cyclist herself.... It could be worse.

Any thoughts from the married crowd? Perhaps we should start a thread asking what the variables are that stopped this bug in people, or perhaps set it off worse.

So I went out and got those Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase tires that I figured I would end up with today. Picked up 2 of those, 2 Bontrager Inner Tubes, and a chain whip tool soI can be ready for swapping the cassette onto the new wheels. They come Monday.

I am excited! Here's the stuff waiting for the wheels.

Ok the wheels have finally arrived. They came nice and true straight out of the box.

Here they are mounted onto My Allez.

Here is the front one close up.

Keep us updated with how they work out for you!

I can't decide between F1's or Forte Titans (aka Neuvation M28s) for a training set. Both come out to about the same price after buying skewers/tape for the Titans.

i am very interested in the long term dependability of such an inexpensive wheelset. please keep this thread updated with your initial and long term impressions.

If I have an hour or two Later I will give them a test ride and post my findings. I just rode around the block a little and found them to be awesome so far. Nice and stiff what what they are. I will keep you guys posted.

Stevey, I think I am going to buy a set of the M1's as well (for touring and different type of riding)

The only thing I did to "offset" having a kid was start ebaying stuff too. So I want a new set of wheels? Well then I gotta get rid of a set. Keeps the bug alive...

Ok Guys... I went on a ride, not very long, but enough to get a decent feel of the wheels and WOW. I can't believe these things only cost 175 bucks shipped! They are definitely awesome wheels. I had no problems mounting my brand new hardcase tires, They absolutely run true, and they look incredible while rolling. (My previous wheels were all black, nothing to look at)

As far as the ride quality goes, I can honestly say these wheels are incredible value. The wheels seems Very nice and stiff. They handled transitioning between gears, the hill I played around on, and accelerating all way better than any stock wheels I have ever owned. All in all, with only a couple miles on them, they were a great purchase. I will keep you guys updated on how they hold up over time.

I am married with a 6 year old son. I have 3 road bikes, so marriage doesn't stop it. There are others on here who are far worse. There could probably be a show on bike and bike parts hoarding. I spend far less on bikes than I did on smoking so it's all good.
