Glove Suggestions...
Need a new pair for warm weather riding. Any favorites? Looking for comfort and no bulk but some padding. Feel free to identify top picks.
Thanx |

been using these for a year and have been great. mesh backs are nice in the summer with a terry thumb for wiping your face. padding is there but not bulky |
Giro Bravos. Well Worth the extra ten bucks over the cheapies.
|
Louis Garneau Ergo Air...perfect amount of (very minimalistic) padding.

I have some Specialized Body Geometry Gel gloves, and I will suggest you avoid them. Great padding (and I need it because of a nerve issue that I have), but I got a rip in one of them at a seam about the 3rd time that I put them on.

Rode on castelli for a long time. Nice! Then, a year ago I tried the Assos summer gloves. Extremely comfortable and despite their looks not indicating so, they are far more durable. Highly recommend them.

This is actually my favorite warm weather glove. I've heard others complain about them, but I've never had problems with having them rip except when I've fallen.

I just retired a pair of Sugoi RS Full Fingered gloves - no complaints, they just did their job. My hand is about the only thing on my left side that I didn't need to pick road out of but the glove tore. I picked up a pair of Pearl Izumi Select Gel FF but only because it was the one full fingered option available and I'm not sure if I'll have time to go to another bike store before the MS150.
I had no problems with the Sugoi gloves and would recommend them. They were well vented, not noticeably warmer than my short fingered gloves, and fitted nicely so that I didn't need to remove them when doing fine-motor-skills things (dialing the phone, dinking with HR monitor, etc.) And it is really, really awesome having two good hands when it's time to pick gravel out of my elbow or change the gauze on my leg. |
None of these gloves have a Terry towel section. A must for me as I like to wipe the sweat and my nose when it runs. so the gloves also have to be washable.

Actually this is what I have now. had them for 4 years. (most of the color is gone from the washing) |
I just picked up some Pearl Izumi Select gloves. The price was right, they feel good and they match my kit. We'll see how they fare durability wise.

Giordana team/club gloves have the terry wipe too, but I am not a fan of these for $40 a bit of a ripoff to me. Very minimal foam padding across the palm with rubbery/silicone grippy dots and mostly terry cloth palm and thumb, the outside/back part some kind of stretchy poly/elastane material. Good if you prefer a more minimalist pro glove, but not for me. Pearl Izumi Gel Vent have worked good for me, pretty durable palm and seams, though the outside and thumb material is very rough, not good for wiping your nose or your face/forehead with the back of the glove. The reflective accents are glued on and started to come off the first time I washed them. Otherwise, a nice glove for me. Giro Monaco are my current favorite, and I am using the full fingered even though we are getting summerish weather here (80s up to 90s Fahrenheit). The Pittards leather on the palm is awesome, there is a real soft leather on the thumb area so probably not quite as absorbent as terry cloth material, but soft enough to wipe without irritation. The padding is great, unobtrusive. They make a similar glove without padding whatsoever, maybe called the Zero, that I would be willing to use too on a bike with semi-padded bartape. Only ding against them for me is there is no reflectivity. I think the half finger ones are $40 retail, worth it if I needed any more light gloves, which I don't! :) |

The Castelli's jakedatc posted above (from probikekit) have a terry thumb area. I have the similar Castelli Rosso Corsa gloves and they are very light and airy summer gloves. The gel padding is not too thick for me................

I have a new pair of Giro Zeros. Minimal padding, just a soft leather palm. Very comfortable. |

You fail to mention the best thing about the Rosso Corsa, the two bits of webbing between the fingers for easy and fast removal. I bought the downmarket version--which I think I like better than the Rosso Corsa with the exception that they don't have the webbing. I miss it big time.

I have Specialized BG gloves, not the gel ones for road riding. I also have a pair of Pearl Izumi Gel gloves, but for some reason, they don't mesh well with my shifters. They work well for mountain biking though.
