I don't like the idea of having a springing mechanism in my cleat so I ride Look.

Hunt-man 04-30-10 09:58 AM

I like my Keo's. My only other pedal was eggbeaters. Keo's for the road are a bit better.

I must be doing something wrong with my Speedplay because they are hard to click into. I have to stop pedaling and put all my weight on the foot for them to click. They unclick fine. The float did feel strange at first but now I like it and so does my knees

Clip in and clipping out is a breeze...

The only issue I have is slight hip/IT pain on hard rides...I'm talking threshold work here...I think it's the free float and my hips actually having to do something to keep everything inline...

It's been getting better as time goes on so I assume it's just a matter of time before the body fully adjusts...

Besides that I love the pedals!

The thing I love the best is fore-aft and side-side adjustments are separate. I use to hate my Keo cleats because of that...replacing was a pain and any small adjustment was difficult to do...

The reason I like the Speedplay Xs is the unlimited float, but as Cdy291 said, you could get the Zeros and have the best of both worlds.

Use a dry Teflon spray lube on the cleats. It really does make them work easier.

I've been on Zero's over a year now and have had no issues. I have them on my road shoes and my Lake winter boots.

I have used the float adjustment to actually bring in my left heel gradually. When I first started on them, it was more comfortable angling out. Over time, I have slowly dialed it back much closer to proper form.

I think most folks that think they need "float" may be in the same boat: your heel isn't moving as you pedal (you don't need it to float back and forth) you just need to be able to put your heel at a comfortable angle. The Zero's allow you to do this.

Well I found some very slightly used Zero's at my LBS and got them for $60.00. Guess I'll throw them on and see what the fuss is all about. Will be good to compare them to the Keo's that I use now. My only complaint with the Keo's is getting clipped in as the pedals like to hand upside down, but that is minor. Keo's and red cleets are divine.

a couple of buddies use speedplay, I use look keo and delta and speedplay frog. the main reason I like the looks is for the wide platform. a buddy tried speedplay but went to time...even with carbon sole shoes, he felt hot spots with speedplay. as for one sided entry, I guess I've been using them so long that its just second nature for me...its harder for me to clip into my frogs on my cross bike...my 2 cents.

I use Keo Look Classic...what is float?

I think this is the reason that Speedplay came out with the Light Action pedals. It take very little pressure to clip in with the LA pedals. The only down side is that the float is not adjustable which isn't a problem for me.

my speedplay x's had way too much float, which i didn't like at all. I sold them off and went back to my 105's.

these adjustable float models look intriguing though

Love my Speedplay Zeroes.

chrism32205 05-03-10 05:26 PM

For those who have the Zero's, do you clip in before you start rolling, so use your downstroke to clip in while starting off?

I just got a pair, and wow.. the tension is tight. Thanks

I've had issues with Look Keos. They make an annoying click click noise and need to be packed with grease, often, especially if you use them in the rain. The axles on my Look Carbon Ti wore out after 8500 miles. I now use the Keo Carbons, but they are in need of maintenence often for some reason too.

The more I ride the speedplay pedals the more I see why everyone raves about them. I finally understand what people mean when they say they feel connected to the bike.

Clipping in the first few times was kind of tough. I had to stand on the pedal to get it to click in. That has loosened up some. I can click in now without even thinking about it. Which is the entire reason I wanted to switch from the Keo's.

Really happy I made that switch.

The spring tension inside the cleat will ease after a half-dozen rides. Also you will get naturally more adept at "stepping on a bug and twisting motion". You might want to lubricate the spring with graphite or dry lube that Speedplay recommends. I have used PAM cooking spray in a pinch but it is NOT recommended as it will attract grit.

Keos here

Using Keo 2 Carbons.

Really really want to try Speedplay so I can objectively compare the two, but so far my Keo's are working perfectly.

Break already!

I typically will clip in my right foot before taking off and then clip the left foot after getting going and have no issues doing this. Unclipping in the beginning was the tough part for me, but that has become second nature now. I simply twist the back of each foot outward and it usually breaks free no problem.
