Taping Deda Alanera bars
Hi.
I just got the Deda Alanera one-piece bars & stem, and I'm having trouble with the bar tape. They don't get taped all the way to the stem - just to the bend before the bar top (above the hoods.) The problem I have is that I tape them that far, and then wrap electrical tape around the loose ends to hold them tight. However, when I ride, my hands are constantly going back and forth over that area, and the electrical tape gets gooey and turns into a mess! Does anyone else use these? If so, how do you handle terminating the bar tape? Thanks. :) Peter |
I don't think you should use "electrical tape." Yup, they get gooey. The bar tape comes with its own termination tape. Use that one.

Thanks. Naturally, I never thought to try that. Having had the tape in a place where I don't touch it all my life, it didn't occur to me that I might be using the worst kind of tape. ;)
I'll try the little "official" tapes! |
A good trick is to first terminate the roll with electrical tape, *then* lay your handlebar end tape over that. I find it hold better and you don't get any of the adhesive moving around.
