Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra 6700 shifters - missing parts?

What do these come with when you buy them? My order was without the packaging so I think some of the extras was not put in the box.

Mine came with:

Brake cables - inner and outer
Gear cables - inner and outer
Shifters

Missing:

Reach adjustment pads
Bottom bracket cable guide
cable stops for downtube

Are those missing things supposed to come with the 6700 shifter pack? They all appear in the installation instructions. Anyone who got the shifter in the box would be able to confirm this.

All those parts came with my previous purchase of 105 shifters (except reach pads not in that technology).

Thanks

Cable stops and cable guide are generally included with the frame iirc.

The shims should be there. The rest, no.

Should the shims be included either? I thought they only come with the ones for smaller hands - like r600 or whatever.

You've got to love the conjecture, but . . .

All of the parts listed came in the box with my 6700 groupset. You should have received them.

+1. I just integrated 6700 shifters into my SL group. Here you can see it's all there: stops, guide, and reach adjustment pads/shims. (I went with a Jagwire Racer cable kit in white so I didn't use any of 'em.)

Yes, as above if packaged by Shimano for retail sale. If you bought from a large scale online retailer, then no. Their stuff is purchased and sold bulk as most are Bike builders. The items you buy from them are from bulk packaging and it is up to the seller what they include. Call Ribble, PBK, Chain Reaction if you used them and ask.

I don't see any cable stops in there. Could you point them out?

My shifters from Ribble came with everything there except for the cable stops (I forgot they did come with the cable guide). They were not in a box though.

Seeing the pic, I realise I am also missing ferrules and cable ends. Amazing how they can think you can install a brake and gear system without all the bits.

Actually I bought from Merlin Cycles for the first time. I'll see how they fix this error and how good their customer service is. Unfortunately it's a national holiday tomorrow so I'll have to be a bit more patient. Chain reaction and wiggle have been great in fixing mistakes quickly and hassle free. We'll see.

haha..you guessed it was for the Ti. Well it is nearly all done after this weekend. Just the shifters/cables (waiting for retailer response) and then the fork cut booked in at lbs for 10 May. Pics will be taken on first sunny day after that. I've got this build organised like a military operation. I'm thinking of getting custom decals made. I'm so tacky. It's looking Fing sweet as it is so far. I've got it next to the tv and I'm looking at the bike more than the tv.

You are right. They're not there. Lemme ask my mechanic if I made an unknowing donation to his bits drawer since my frame has em brazed on.

Depending on how the product was advertised, it may not be an error. Did they explicitaly advertise that they were selling you adjustment pads, frame stops, bb guide, ferrules, and cable ends? If not they're in the clear.

Well the shifters are advertised as adjustable. without the pads they are just not adjustable. The other bits maybe can be considered extras but the pads are clearly part of the shifter as described by shimano and on all the product descriptions.

6700 shifters do NOT come with cable stops. That's an extra $30 MSRP of bits.

Thanks for the heads up. I won't bother my mechanic tomorrow then. However, Shimano should revise the instructions. They direct the user to install them as if they are a part that came with the shifters.

Mine did. But I have always wondered why they do.

May Day. No I am not going to dance around the May pole waving my hankie like some kind of demented pansy.

Well, I called them yesterday and they were very helpful. No fuss, no messing around. Tell me what was missing and we'll send it out. This morning I received everything as discussed that should have come with the shifters (all except cable stops which I was mistaken about).

Good experience, good customer service. I'll add Merlin Cycles to the list of reliable on line retailers.

By the way, the 2 ferrules that go on the brake cable outers. Do they go on the caliper end or the shifter end?
