Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

pull ratios of the sram & shimano derailleurs are different. otherwise, people recommend a kmc chain or shimano chain when using a sram RD to reduce noise. a friend has a full sram set-up and it's pretty quiet as far as i can tell. as for you, get a rival/force/red FD and you are good to go

PS. someone else please chime in on the brakes. i know it'll work when you mix and match, but i have no idea how well you can modulate when you mix & match

I run sram force shifter and derailures, DA chain, 105 cassette, rotorQrings. No issues, works fine.

That setup will be fine. The only thing you really need to match up is the rear derailleur with the rear shifter. I run a Ultegra 6600 front derailleur with my Rival shifter. Works fine, but I wish it were the wider cage body like Rival's FD.

I recently bought a Ridley Noah and working with the staff at the LBS, decided on the following set-up: SRAM Red (Shifters, Rear Derailleur and Crankset); Force (Front Derailleur, Bottom Bracket); Ultegra 6700 Cassette, Dura Ace Chain, TPS Brakes. Smooth, quiet and stops on a dime.
