Assos sizing
 

I am planning to buy Assos S5 FI.Uno bibs but my measurements don't seem to fit the ones specified on Assos' site quite exactly. I am 5ft 8in tall and weigh 172-174 pounds, with a longer torso and shorter legs. Should I get a Medium or a Large size?

I have a 32-33 size waist.

I'd go with whatever length is right. I'm 6'2" and large is good. You can probably live with all the other dimensions being off a little but not length. You definitely don't want it flimsy or yanking your shoulders over. GL

I don't know if it help much, but for reference, I'm 6'1" and 190 (35" waist) and large fits me well.

Assos bib sizing is more biased towards height than weight, so go for the medium. For reference, I'm a couple of inches taller and narrower, and the mediums are fine.

BTW, since this is apparently your first pair of Assos bibs, when you first put it on, you'll think it's too small. However, once you're on the bike, the famous Assos cut comes into its own and demonstrates why people love Assos bibs so much.

large... i am 5"10-167lbs-32" waist... large fits (a tiny bit on the big side, but i rather that than too small)

Uh, that's odd. I'm 5"10.5' 165lbs 33 inch waist.... Medium fits...

Assos is kinda between Italian and American sizing. They make stuff really stretchy, so it fits a wide range of sizes. GBW is my favorite brand, because it is A-grade, and is more available on sale than Assos, but Assos makes A-grade stuff, no doubt about it. The Unos now have the S5 pad. Niice pad. I have it on the Winter tights and Mille FI bib shorts. But GBW and other mfrs buy Assos pads, under the Cytech Elastic Interface Techology brand. A great pad, and saddle matched to you, and some butt creme, is like, "I can ride all day until my legs give out." If you have to stand up because of burning, you need to do some changes. I mean a little standing up to restore circulation is fine, but if you are feeling abrasion burn, and are in serious pain, you need to re-figure things.

I'm a little shorter and have Uno's in medium (new, S5) AND large (older, S2?) and they both fit well. The new lycra is more stretchy than the older version.

If you want Assos for brand recog, most of their stuff has only micro-labeling with a iittle red swiss cross. Most people aren't even going to know what you got. So, you ride it because you like it, or want to send a message to the cognoscenti. My experience is, I think you get more bang-for-buck with Assos-profiting EIT pads in other brands. Assos' founder, a genius, sold out many years ago. The successors still make really good stuff, but not way-above-the-compettition anymore. Except for Fugu jacks, it's not even Swiss-made anymore. Seriously, order some, and check the labels. i have tights, knickers, shorts, jacket, none of them mfrd in Switzerland. All from former Soviet-bloc countries.


if you do order Assos, make sure you can online-warranty-register your garment, or get stuff from an Assos-authorized dealer (assos.com has a list). If you buy from a not-Assos-authorized listed dealer,and you don't get a warranty-reg code tag, you're on your own.
