Computer for middle aged eyes

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Computer for middle aged eyes

I am 48 and need reading glasses for anything close, but other than that do not need a prescription and have been looking for a computer with cadence that I can actually see. I assume I am not alone on this one. I’d been using a Cateye Strata cadence but I could never tell if it said 86, 88, 89, or 90 on that tall and thin cadence display. Tried a Vetta RT277 – the display was a little better, but not much. Tried a Cateye Astrale 8 which allowed me to put the cadence up to the top larger numeral, but then I couldn’t read the speed. Then I tried a Sigma BC1609 and finally found my perfect computer. The numbers are big and bold and as wide as they are high and I can see them with absolutely no problem. It is very user friendly, in my opinion, and even throws in temperature and a back light as a bonus. If you go to the Sigma website (https://www.sigmasport.com/us/produkt...c1609/?flash=1) and click on “product demo”, you can even see a running demo of the computer, press the buttons, and see how it reacts. Got mine from LL Bean for $39.00 and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made. I went with wired because I simply don’t mind the wires, but they do make it wireless for those who prefer it. I can finally see my computer!!

I use little bifocal stick-ons for my sunglasses. They work pretty well. When I look down at my Edge 705 computer, I look through the sticky and everything is sharp, but they don't get in the way when I look above them at the road.

I have the same problem. I'm using a Garmin 500 and can just about barely make out the numbers now if I set it to display 5 values (the big numbers are fine, of course). I have the same problem with my glacier glasses when mountaineering- can't read the contour map without changing glasses. Presbyopia stinks! Jim, where did you get the bifocal stick-ons?

I fall into your category and issue with small and hard to read digits. I have a Cateye and find it really difficult to read. On my other bike I have a Ciclo Sport and find it much better - like the old Avocet computers. https://www.outdoorgb.com/b/ciclosport/

I have a Bontrager Node 2 the speed is really big about 1" in side the time, temp, HR and cadence are 1/4 the size and spread out around it. It had the largest display of the ones I was looking at.

That only works in your Trek Madone.
