Cracked Frame, warranty?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cracked Frame, warranty?

So after all of my fitting issues are finally getting resolved my fitter notices a crack in the seat tube of my frame. The frame is a six year old aluminium Scattante that when I first took back to Performance they said they would warranty. Now they are telling me they need the original receipt. Would you bother or just assume you'd gotten out of the frame what you could? I've never crashed this bike, but I am a big guy.

I think that all manufactures require an original reciept just to verify that you are the original owner. If you have it available why not get a new frame? It will be well worth the little hassle you have to go through to find the receipt. Info only; my daughter had a Specialized that developed a cracked head tube so we went to the bike shop where we bought it and they gave us a copy of the receipt - Specialized replaced the frame with a higher model (carbon seat stays) at no charge.

I'd bother, but I'm cheap!
