Raleigh Technium Pro

I just found a Raleigh Technium Pro with full Shimano 105 gruppo while on a business trip today. They are asking $100.00 for it. It appears to be a 56 or 58cm. (I didn't have a means to measure). It also has LOOK pedals. I'm unsure of the model year. It has a threaded headset. (so its not a very recent model) The rims are 700cX23's.

Just wondering what the majority think of the price. I'd also love to hear from Technium owners.

I am familure with the Raleigh line, so don't need to be schooled on that point. I've just never run accross a Technium before. (or any post 1980 Raleigh).

Thanks,

Bob

I rode a technium Raleigh, circa 1988, as my around town thrash bike for many years. The tubing is very flexible and forgiving, maybe the most conmfortable ride I've ever felt. A lot of people use these as touring bikes even today and I would hgihly recommend grabbing it for 100 beans

Hey thanks zensuit. I couldn't believe how light the bike is. I did a google search on the bike and found there were also some MTB Techniums made. So just to clairify, this is a road bike. (I think the 105 gruppo gave that away)

I'm interested in your comment regarding frame flex. I'm not looking for it to be a tourer, I already have a Bianchi San Remo for that. It would be my "racer" type road bike. Do you think it is to flexie for that purpouse?

Thanks agian.

Depends on the thickness of the tubing...mine was pretty much standard thickness, slightly oversized and I could flex the frame a lot...enough that I could actually feel extra chain rub on climbs...now if you don't mind that...and some people don't...it might be a decent racer bike...

Thanks again! I think I'll pass on it.

I have a 1990 Raleigh Technium 400 that I use as a trainer/tourer. Very solid old bike, never have experienced any frame flex.

I rode one for a year or so when I was between bikes; my cousin loaned it to me. Flexy bike. I went from OCLV to that to Cannondale, so my ass was probably calibrated for stiffness which made it seem more flexy than it might have been.

I want to get that bike back and do a fixie conversion on it, though. Good ride in spite of its noodle quality.
