Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

To debadge or not debadge...

So, my newly built Klein...I can make a case for either. Pull the rim decals or no?

I once did exactly that to the same wheels two years ago and they looked freekin terrible after I did it. I ended up giving them away because they looked so plain and boring. They look much better left on...sorry no pics. Also, the decals were a bugger to get off.

TAKE OFF THE WHEEL DECALS!

What's wrong with you people?! That bike is so clean and nice looking and not tarnished by a bunch of brand names until you look at the wheels. Take those stickers off and make the wheels match the rest of the bike.
If the manufacturer wanted you to leave the stickers on the wheels, they wouldn't be stickers!!

4 or 5 grams of ugly plastic fat. Yank 'em.

I haven't seen that particular wheel naked but I do think the decals look crappy, or at least not in keeping with the vibe of the bike.

I pulled the decals on my ritchey wheels several years ago when I discovered that when I'd spin the front wheel, it would settle with the decal at the bottom...indicating the heavy part of the wheel.

If you can get the decals off cleanly, I would. I like a very clean look.

As rim decals go, yours are pretty innocuous. Removing them might be more trouble than it's worth.

Coin toss.

I say pull the decals and get new ones w/ just an outline. Then it would be much more fitting.

They look ok to me. The black typeface plays off the black stem and seat post. I took Mavic decals (all yellow and garish) off a pair of carbones and it was a chore. First step was heating the decals with a hair dryer to get the glue to release. That allowede to peel them off easily in one piece, but I had to use goof off solvent to remove a durable and sticky residue left on the rim. They might use a different glue on alloy surfaces.

I'd say leave them because if nothing else, should you go to sell the wheels and upgrade them to something else, it is a lot easier to prove what they are.

Would you take the decals off your Rolex watch? NO! Because no one would then be able to tell that you paid as much for a watch as you did for your house! Decals on non-deep dish wheels look fine. The 50mm Zipps? Uuuuuuugggllllleeeeee! Or at least that's what I think. The thought of watching Zipps while riding gives me a headache. I would keep the decals on your wheels; they are hardly noticeable and won't detract from the sexiness of the bike while riding.

But it's all personal taste. You should keep the look that *you* prefer.

That's actually because the rim decals are usually placed over the pin or weld joint on the rim. On aluminum rims this also happens to be the heaviest spot on the rim. Decal or not.

Saw your thread and thought I'd ask the same question about my wheels... The decals aren't as flashy but I'm still hesitant to remove them!

Tough question in that I specifically paid $150. extra over a set of new 2009's for my 2011's because
I didn't like the older decals. BUT...your bike is soooo clean that purely silver wheels would look nice
and IMO, they conflict with the lettering on the downtube. I don't think they'd be missed and it would
tie-in the wheels with the frameset even more. Just my opinion.

Your stickers aren't too bad. But still.....they need to come off.
Like I said earlier.....if the manufacturer wanted you to keep them on, they wouldn't have used stickers!
