Armstrong on telly tonight - Sept 1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Armstrong on telly tonight - Sept 1

Get off the trainer, find some snacks, and get comfy. We've got a Big Tex double shot on TV tonight:

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - Lance will be given a LiveSTRONG bike from the American Chopper dudes.

The Best Damn Sports Show Period - He's not listed as a guest on the BDSSP site, but the Paceline reports that he'll be there.

Dunno about you guys, but I'm getting over-Lanced.

I heard a rumor that a good team kinda helps win tours.

sour grapes.
Talked to a french guy at work today, he said the only reason Lance won is because the team has a lot of money.

I think there should be a "Lance" sub-forum where all the Lance Armstrong threads can go. Joe could set it up so that it would be by subscription only. That way it would be easy to ignore and wouldn't show up when you click on "View New Posts".

Please don't assume ignorance. While I agree that Armstrong may be one of the best riders in history, the team is vital to winning the tour. Good riders have been hampered by weak teams. While I think Armstrong's accomplishments are incredible, I would like to see more credit to the efforts of his team than what the press has done so far. It just indicates sports press ignorance of road racing. In certain aspects, richer teams have better riders, and stronger team mates that spend most of their time in the tour breaking the air for the team leader in the peloton.

More Lance. Just what we need. The guy's finished for the year and we still are subjected to his name.

Lance for president.

*sigh*

It's got freakin' Lance's name in the thread title. There's no rule that says you have to clicky, mate. But I'm glad to give you something to b!tch and moan about, anyway.

Let it be known that if Chechu or Azevedo were on tonight, I'd have told you about that, too. If it was Lemond, I'd have posted seven times, in every forum. And if it were Backstedt or Boonen, I'd have hired a skywriter.

Hell, they could sit a cobblestone from the Muur van Geraardsbergen in that seat next to Jay, and I'd post about it - just so you ungrateful folks could watch, if you wanted to.

Thank you for the info! As a fan of both Armstrong and OCC, I'll be sure to tune in. If you hadn't posted it, I probably would've been in bed and never even known I had missed it.

Exactly. If you don't want to hear about Lance, then why click the thread? It's just that simple!!

I guess I needed to put the [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] flags around it.

I'll watch Lance racing and enjoy it, but that about the extent of my interest at this point. It's mostly because I'm a contrarian by nature and I think Lancey-boy is just a tad over-exposed. Enjoy the show. I'll be catching some Z's.

My question is, who is gonna pay me to watch that tool Leno and that fat oaf Arnold? No way I'll watch those two shows - no matter who is on. I can watch TdF re-runs if I want to see Lance. Which I don't really

Sure Lance has good teammates. So did Jordan. But Scottie Pippen didn't win the 6 titles in Chicago for Jordan anymore than Lance's teamates won him the 6 TDFs. Vive La Lance! I will force myself to stay up to watch the Tuttle's give him the bike. Did anyone see the American Chopper where they made the LiveStrong bike? Was it even on?

It's not in their episode list, but that doesn't mean that it wont be in an episode later in the season. Their episodes typically lag their builds by several months. I was at a bike show they attended earlier this year and when I got home, I saw a commercial for a new episode that was a bike I had just seen!

No, but when is the last time a yellow jersey was held by a cyclist who was not a team leader? This is the problem with US TV coverage of cycling, they don't explain the sport very well, although this year was pretty good. I'm certain we never would have heard of Scottie Pippin if he played for the Raptors.

Azevedo and Checu are foreigners and would never get on Leno.

OCC..LOL..proof that the mentally handicapped can contribute to society and run a business. I still can't believe people pay $60K for those glorified minibikes assembled by the three stooges: Pauley, Pauley and Mikey..nyuk,nyuk,nyuk. wooooowooowoowooowooo..

I'd say Stage 14 this year with Thomas Voeckler (I don't think he would have been considered the Brioches team leader before the Tour). For Postal it would have to be last year when VHP held the Yellow Jersey. So it's "held" by domestiques all the time. Now, winning it is another story. But how about 1986?

You mean you're not impressed by the erector-set "choppers" they build for the shows? Me neither.

I'm not a "chopper" guy and stick with sportbikes. But, from what I've seen there are a lot of really talented guys out there building some really sophisticated bikes: How about a Bourget..? yeah baby. That's a bike. A Gasoline Alley creation by Indian Larry; sure. A West Coast Chopper one-off. You bet. Even a Paul Yaffe would be something to brag about. If it's a Hugh King production project, the builders are the real deal. No Hugh King? Nothing worth watching.

that bumblebee bike they're giving lance is way ugly though - even by the standards of the aesthetically challenged tuttle family.
