HED Ardennes or Dura Ace WH-7850-C24 CL?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've had the HED Ardennes SLs for nearly a year now, with a full season of racing on them. I like everything about them except the sealed cartridge bearings (that aren't nearly as smooth as my cup and cone wheels). Would i buy them again? Probably not. Instead i'll lace up some HED Belgium rims (non-scandium Ardennes hoops) to record hubs in future.

Wow. Thanks very much for the insight, Flak.
Hmm, leaning back toward the C24's now, because the bearings on my current 7850-C24's & C50's are slicker than owl$#it.

Don't get me wrong, they're nice wheels, and the hubs aren't bad; they're just not as nice as a quality cup and cone hub (better fulcrums/campy, or shimanos). The platform itself is solid, and the mechanics/wheel builders at my shop say the HED rim is on of the straightest extruded rim they've worked with.

I think im done with pre-built wheels tbh.

However, if i had to pick between your choices, i'd pick the DAs.

Not a single issue with my Ardennes after nearly 5k miles. YMMV.

Chris - Just FYI, you can get those rims built with DA hubs for ~$700 from Excel Sports Boulder. They built a more utilitarian set for me (Ultegra/RR465) and I'm pleased with them. In shop time was less than a week.

I love my C24's and Shimano is right up the road from you in case you have any issues. I had a problem recently and I had new wheels in two days (went in Sunday afternoon with the wheel and wheels were ready for me on Tuesday morning).

Don't have the HED, but my DA 7850 C24s have been great with more than 4 years of trouble free smooth rolling.

Shimano doesn't post a weight limit. I don't know what that means in terms of warranty issues, but supposedly 200 lbs shouldn't be an issue.
I'd have to double check my paperwork because there is a disclaimer somewhere about weight on frames but it's over 250 if I remember correctly.
