Netherlands bike rush hour video

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Netherlands bike rush hour video

http://www.break.com/index/insane-ru...therlands.html

I think this was meant to be funny, but it kind of looks like my idea of a nice commute. I'm sure that there are some people on this forum that are probably in this video, and I'm jealous.

The streets of my city are a joke compared to this. Frustrating, because I've been trying to get a work Visa overseas for two years now, and with the crap economic situation over there it just isn't happening. Anyway, thought I'd share this vid.

I would definitely say the bicycle is ingrained into their culture. Wow not a single set of drop bars, skinny tires, spandex shorts, or helmets. I did see two Dahon/folding bikes dwarfed by all the other cruisers. Thanks for the vid. Lp

Just some facts,

The Netherlands

Population estimate 16600000 (16,6 Million)
Total # Bikes 2009 18000000+ (18 million)

Do the math,
Yes we cycle alot, but The Netherlands is flat. Add the fact that is tiny. Whenever we have to go somewhere, we dont have to travel 10000 miles.

Certainly a different culture than here. If I just stick to the roads, I ran ride for several miles around town and not see anyone else on a bike.

I suggest listening to the end of the FredCast podcast show #151 from a couple weeks back. There is a great interview with Marc from amsterdamize.com which really explains this video/topic.

Nice to see people commuting by bike but under those conditions I'd probably find myself on the road more often than not.
