Thoughts on Lemond Sarthe

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thoughts on Lemond Sarthe

Took my daughter's little Trek Mtn. bike to the LBS for its one month tune up yesterday. Hanging there is a used Lemond Sarthe. I don't know the year, but it's blue, 59cm (would fit me well, I think), Ultegra drivetrain and 105 brakes. It's in REALLY nice shape and has some sort of a computer, a sensor near the crank (I assume that's the cadence sensor) and front and back lights. It's steel with carbon forks. They're asking $1250 which seems steep to me, but I'm unedumacated when it comes to this stuff. Thoughts?

I think you can find info on that model on Lemond's website, if it's still up. Trek swallowed them up, then discontinued them because of ongoing legal problems with Greg Lemond.

If remember, that was a 16-1800 bike new. The last couple of years they made it in orange, then gray. They started cheaping out with the mix of equipment. $1250 used for an orphan brand, seems high to me, too. Maybe $1,000?,

Thanks. The only thing left on the website is a product registration. NOTHING else. Talked to the LBS and he "thinks" it's an '08.

Looks about right on it being a 2008. People always gave them good reviews from what I remember. $1200 seems steep to me also.

I had the blue one and it was the last year of production...'08 model I think. They came with Ultegra shifters and RD and everything else 105. I bought mine new in '08 for $1650 and sold it last summer for $1100. It was a great bike and I wouldn't hesitate to own another one.

You can use that to look up specs and geometry for Lemond bikes.
