Weird Clicking Sound...Thoughts?
Hey guys,
So last night I'm hearing (and feeling) like a weird clicking sound (vibration) when I get up and hammer out of the saddle or stand during a climb...it is coming from the front of the bike...when I stop and give the front wheel a spin...nothing...if I just sit and spin...nothing...
So...
1. headset?
2. front hub? or...
3. front wheel flex clipping the brake pad? - don't think 3 really, pretty stiff easton vista wheel.
4. Something else?
Thanks.

broken/loose spoke?
Headset is more of a jarring rattle when you go over bumps.

Could be a number of things, including the items listed above. Fwiw, I just resolved a similar circumstance with wr's help -- rear wheel spokes. Mostly resolved by tightening the skewer, but also likely need some spoke adjustment.
Keep an open mind when it comes to locating the source. The squeak could be from so many places.

I have the same issue. When I am standing up on a climb or sprint it clicks in time with my cadence. It sounds like it's coming from the front wheel (I do have a magnetic speed sensor up there)... I just can't imagine I'm flexing the wheels enough to make it tick into the little pickup that is zip-tied onto the fork. If you find a solution I'd like to hear it.

What kind of fork do you have? I have an Alpha Q GS10 and found out that the glued in insert started to pull out which was making a clicking noise whenever I stood up out of the saddle. I have a compression plug in there now, and it starts making a little bit of noise every 100-150 miles or so. I'd also recommend checking the bolts on the stem.

I had that problem and it was my bottom bracket flexing which sent my chainrings over into my FD. Only happened when hammering/climbing and was in time with my cadence. New bike, better BB, no noise.

Another likely spot is the stem. I just got a similar creak out of my bike a couple weeks ago. Every time I reversed torque on the bars (out of the saddle) the bar clamp would creak slightly.
You can't just listen for where it's coming from, though. Sound travels really well throught the frame. I had a creaky seatpost clamp this week that I thought was chain noise for a while, then when I found it it sounded like it was coming from the headtube.
Try putting force on the bars to see if you can make them creak. If it's the bottom bracket then you can sometimes make it creak by pulling the cranks sideways with your hands. Pedals are another suspect. Just eliminate stuff, then clean, grease and re-torque when you think you've got a winner. And don't rule out odd, dumb stuff like loose cables hitting the frame.

I put a set of Spinegy's Xaero Lites on my bike and shortly thereafter developed a very loud "clicking" whenever I got over about 22-24 mph. I drove me crazy. I did hill after hill trying to figure out what it was. I changed wheels, I removed things from the bike, etc. Finally gave up and went to the LBS.
They put it in the workstand and were able to duplicate it. It was the speed magnet on the rear wheel. At high speeds it moved just enough to contact the Gamin GPS-10 unit on the chainstay. That was even though it really wasn't mounted close enough for it to look like that would happen. Just my experience...all sorts of things make noises...and they can be a PITA to troubleshoot

Oh, that reminds me: valves could be clicking in the holes in the rims if there aren't nuts on them. It's totally unlikely that it's your problem, but it's one of those dumb little things that'll drive you insane and merits mentioning anyway.
