My Worst fear realized

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I love my riding too much to increase the chance of accidents.. Today, I was at the bike shop where cyclists often congregate to talk about our rides..
. Our racer types had an accident on the decent two weekends ago... .. Racing down the hill at 30 plus mph three cyclists ran into one another.. Two are off work , one wearing a sling and the other an upper body immobilizer . The second had fractured his breast bone.. Sipping down their coffee, it sounded like stories from a nursing home..
Somewhat slower rides to me enhances safety . At least that is my hope..

Wish your wife the speediest of recovery.
My wife is scared of riding on the roads, I am insistent that she ride with me, yet if this were to happen I would hate myself. I will need to rethink about being so pushy.

^ +1

My wife got taken out by a rear view mirror of a pickup while riding with friends. The jerk left the scene and her with a concussion and cracked ribs. The doctor decided to skip the X-ray as the blood work showed an extremely early pregnancy. She crashed again about 5 months along. I then hid her bike ...no joke!

Our oldest son is now 8

Don't know. Ask your wife. If she's anything like mine she's always right!

I get the concern. My wife just started riding with me on little weekend doodles up and down the local MUP. She seems to really enjoy herself, and I get a kick out of it too. Like two kids riding around the neighborhood. Good times.

Here's hoping she heals quickly and you're both out enjoying it soon.

Right there with ya buddy,

About 2 weeks ago my wife decided she just had to have clipless pedals. Within 2 minutes of putting them on the bike, and just practicing getting in and out in the front yard, she fell and broke her elbow. She was pretty much standing still when she fell the short distance. It turned out to be a very minor break, and she is doing much better now, but she is still having trouble doing basic things that she has to do to take care of our 2 kids. I still feel really bad about not being smart enough to put her bike on the trainer in the house and let her practice before actually taking the bike outside.

I love that you guys want to keep your ladies safe.

Buuuut - we have minds of our own - you can stop blaming yourselves when we fall or crash or hurt ourselves (unless you directly caused it, then you're an idiot )

Wishing speedy recoveries to everyone injured!!!
