Noob question... but searching didn't pull anything up
How do you know what races will give you points toward upping your category? Also, is there some entity that oversees that stuff or do you just know that if you finish X races you get X points and thus your category gets raised?

Only races in your category give you points for upgrading. You have to keep track of them youself and enter your race resume when you submit for an upgrade. If you are new, then you need to do 10 mass start races to upgrade from 5 to 4, there are no points.
