Anyone had this happen to them in a race?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

brake check?

please let us know who you are so that we can avoid riding with you in any situation. You were not joking. You only say that now because you got called out on saying some really dumb and careless stuff.

next time, if you don't like someone drafting you then just slow down and let him come around.

Congrats to the other guy for finding someone to tow him around to the finish.

as i understand it, the other guy expended less energy than the OP and got a better placing in the "race"

i'm confused, why aren't we highlighting this as an example of what you should do when racing?

Well, the other guy really should have been attacking across the tops of hills too, but left that part out for some reason.

ah yes, that too.

not to mention that if the return leg was a tailwind, if OP was truly laying it down and was stronger than mr. savvy bike race guy, he should have been able to ride away since tailwinds abhor wheelsucks

Let's set aside the issues of whether the race was sanctioned or whether the riders were OTB. If you can't get the wheelsucker to work with you (that is, do his fair share of pulling), your choices are towing him to the line (which you did) or dropping him. There are various ways of doing this, but they all involve a sustained acceleration. If you can't do this now, visit the Racing subforum and check out the workout recipe book sticky.

I highly recommend the Waterrockets Intervals (tm). Sleep well, eat lightly that morning, and have your passport stamped to the Land of Great Suffering.
