compression plug?

Need some help...

I have a Van Dessel Rivet frame. I have no compression plug for the fork. Fork did not come with it...neither did second hand headset. Manufacturer has not been getting back to me about what brand/model/size/type is necessary. Can anyone tell me what I have to buy? Thanks!

i'm not sure it is that specific. as long as it is the right width i bet it should be ok.

What brand and model is the fork? Check the manufacturer of the fork's website.

I'm assuming that you have a carbon fiber steerer. If so you definitely want a compression plug, not a star nut.

You also need to know the size of the steerer tube, which is likely 1 1/8"

You should be good with any compression plug designed to be used with a CF steerer. I would check with the fork manufacturer however just out of caution, because some have specific requirements (such as a glued in reinforcement sleeve on alpha forks).

I'm not sure who manufacturered the fork...it has a Van Dessel paint job. And Van Dessel has been sporadic in their response to my inquiries. The steerer is carbon...1.5-/1.125-in. tapered steerer. So do I get the 1 1/8" compression plug?

^ According to reviews, it has a proprietary Van Dessel fork with a 1.5 to 1.125 steerer tube, so you need a 1 1/8" compression plug.

and checking with the Fork manufacturer doesn't seem to be an option.

Any decent one, such as an FSA compressor and top cap, should work fine.

Another option is an epoxied in sleeve that holds the nut. 3T strongly recommends these for their forks. I like it because the aluminum insert gives just a little bit extra protection from crushing the steerer where the stem tightens against it.

Go to any bike shop and ask for one. Anything from the used one they might give you for a few bucks or even free, to the new one for $10-20.

Get something like an FSA Compressor Expander Plug 1 1/8" you can find them from $10 - $20
