Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First Big Ride

Hey Guys,
Ive been intrested In getting into road biking for a while and I had finally set a goal and am working to achieve it.
On july 11th I'll be doing the ACS Ride From Philadelphia to Buena Vista Campground near the Beach in New Jersey.
I've been saving my money to buy my self a reliable road bike while training on a friends mountain bike from the late 90's.
To get to my point. Ive been doing well so far. Riding up to now ive made 26 miles and still felt pretty good. The ride is on july 11th and im looking to really up my training. Any suggestion on training, and ideas for a good road bike?
Thanks

What's your budget? You can spend anywhere from 1,000 to 9,000 on a "good bike."

For training just ride. I don't know how long you expect the big ride will take you, but you will want to work up to training rides of about 3/4 of that time and distance. If this is your first experience with long endurance events you will also want to practice your hydration and eating methods in advance so that you have a system which can reliably fuel your ride.
