But really, I had this problem not too long ago. People suggested the following: get new cleats, adjust your cleats, tough it out (it'll eventually go away), change the insoles of your cycling shoes, etc... |
I was pretty startled to learn how loose I could leave my shoes and still make good power. If you feel like your feet are moving around in your shoes, it may be an indicator your pedaling form could use a little focus. (No offense intended--I had terrible pedaling form two years ago and didn't know it, but I've been working on it and my feet (& @$$) almost never hurt anymore.)
Keeping your toenails trimmed? What kind of shoes do you currently have and how many different kinds have you owned in the past? Toughing it out is a lousy option, IMO. I was also surprised to learn that you don't have to get smaller sized shoes, even with clipless. I went up half a Euro size on the recommendation of a bikefitter and my feet have been plenty cosey, even in my plastic clown shoes. http://www.calamarichris.com/images/...-pmar-chr5.jpg |
insurts = Insults?? sorry? :p
Type and brand of shoes? size? Pedals brands? where in specific hurts?? Thanks. |
My old specailized mountian shoes would cause my feet to fall asleep even though they were the right size for walking. when I switched to diadora road shoes I got them a whole size larger since they are all around stiffer. problem solved.

I have had this problem for the last two years. Unfortunately I changed a few things at the same time and the problem went away, meaning I can't tell you what it was exactly.
I did switch saddles to a Ritchey WCS Streem carbon (which is like heaven), also got some Bontrager road SL's and moved my cleats all the way to the bottom position instead of all the way at the top of the shoe. I'm going to venture to say it was probably the shoes and a little bit of the cleat position. It was always my left foot that would go numb after about 15 miles but now I can roll for hours without numbness as long as my shoes aren't tight. I also went up in size to a 10 when my last shoes were a 9.5. These Bontragers do have a massive toe box which I love even though my feet aren't very wide. |
A lot of people think they need to strangle their feet. If I even slightly overtighten my shoes, I will know within 5 minutes. Loosen your shoes to the point where they are secure on your feet, no tighter. This will take a bit of experimenting to find the right point that keeps the shoes secure, does not cause chafing, or loss of power or balance.

Are you sure your shoes fit? There are many different lasts used for cycling shoe construction.

thanks:cry: Now that we got that out of the way, on to your question. Sore feet can be the result of a variety of problems ranging from shoes that are too tight or poorly positioned cleats so I think it's best to go to your LBS so someone can determine what exactly the problem might be. |
try loosening shoe, or larger shoe or thinner sock.
