Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Next time, start to come around without making it look like you're coming around... and see if you can make them do a bike throw.

You've given me an idea: to paint a white line across the road at that point.

I'm loving life here in Santa Barbara, we have the full spectrum. I was one of maybe 10 roadies is Fairbanks, Alaska (1990's)- sheesh, that got old, no-one to mess with. I feel your pain!

I have glistening quads, a very expensive bike (tens of thousands of dollars), polka-dot kit, and legendary genitals. You would not have come close to beating me up that climb. I would've pretended to gift you, only to sprint past you at the last second and give a two armed, clenched fist Cavendish victory salute!

Edit: scratch the two armed salute. You would've seen this. Phone home, b**chez.

Dude, I've seen your kind. You couldn't shake me. I was right there behind you breathing down your neck, the skit, skit sound of my high pressure tires rolling over tarmac filling your ears, your eyes bulging from the effort... I didn't want to Fred up the moment by passing you at the last second, so I gifted you instead. That had to hurt.

What are quads?

So I guess the question is: would you then let yourself be "gifted" if you felt you were being trailed by a "Fred" with some serious but latent skills?

If you think for a second they weren't trying, you would be wrong. They knew it was a race.

In the first instance I stayed within a bike length for most of the climb, and closed in tight as we reached the top, considering whether to come around and take the win. Struggling with my conscience, ultimately I didn't because that would have looked way too Fredtunistic on my part, so I gifted him by letting him take it. Then I lost him on the fast descent.

The second one made an attempt to place considerable distance from me mid-way up, but I detected toward the top that he was weakening, so I closed ever so slowly, timing my attack to be able to sprint around and take the win, but again I stopped short and gave him the gift of a win.

They both knew they had been gifted. Serves them right for putting on a show by passing me on a climb and not finishing strong.

The political movement was bad, not the word. It is a common term of reference for an extreme position.

That's exactly how I'm certain that I win my "commute race" to work each day.

Quads are kind of like motorcycles, but with four wheels, right?
