san diego remembers.
i've never really "celebrated" memorial day. it has always just been a day off of school or work for me. so when i thought about my destination for todays ride i thought it may be appropriate to take a trip up mount soledad where there is a war memorial along with the best views of san diego.
so off i embark on my way to...the bagel shop.

ok. now really. on the road

san diego river bike path

soledad road

climbing is slow. i have not been on the bike in a while due to finals.
i take it easy and think about the usual. here i am dreaming, great house with a great view

how much i miss the larger nubs on shimano

views

i arrive at the top of soledad. lots of servicemen and women/ families. they are having a memorial service by the cross. everything is blocked off to cars. the guard lets me through.

i love this shot, it reminds me of a war cemetery (if that is what you would call it)

this guy gets his own area, and for a damn good
reason.

and on the way home i...
... see a chihuahua pissing match

steal this guys girl friend

enjoy more views

then i arrive home to wash negro modelo.

Gorgeous ride, isn't it? The beauty almost offsets the cold feeling I get looking at all the tombstones.
I did that very route Saturday, but on a 29er with Big Apple tires and Ragley bars. I bet you were way faster, but I got more entertaining looks.

very gorgeous ride. we often ride catalina blvd through fort rosecrans national cemetery to get to the tide-pools hill. it is an odd feeling to see the thousands of white graves contrasted with the bay/ocean.

Probably my favorite ride around here because of the variety of routes to and from the top.
