visiting san diego - do any shops actually rent real road bikes?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

visiting san diego - do any shops actually rent real road bikes?

also posted over in the regional forums, but you all might have better information.

finally pulled my vacation plans together and will be in san diego for 10 days at the beginning of august. i'm looking forward to leaving the wifey by the pool and seeing some sights while in the saddle for a day or two.

google is offering no help, all i can find are beach cruisers and hybrids for rent. i really dont want to deal with the hassle of transporting my bike on a plane for 1 or two days of riding, some shop in the land of socal has to rent road bikes right?

i'm not too picky on components or frame material, etc, can anyone offer me a suggestion?

as the time gets closer i hope to narrow in on a few 75 - 100 mile rides through the area, which i'll also be soliciting advice for/

anything?

Try again. My superquick google search landed a few that had road bike rentals. Try Holland bikes, San Diego bike shop, https://www.sandiegobiketoursinc.com/index.html

If you are going to be near Coastal North County there is Nytro

Nytro Rental Program

Hell, even if you are further south you could just take the Coaster (commuter train) up to Encinitas.

if you are close to ob/point loma you can try moment cyclesport.

one of the best rides you are going to get down here is along the coast on torrey pines. we should get some locals together for a ride.

nice choice! ive had some interesting high school moments there

so. anyway, you are close to mission/pacific beach and not too far from ob/point loma. i'm not sure about any shops in mission but it looks like moment cyclesport is the closest shop of the ones mentioned above. ill let you know if i find anything closer.

btw nachoman and i live in ob/point loma so we will be close.

Nice vacation choice, down in the MB/OB/PB beach zone in should be fun. enjoi07 and nachoman probably have the more convienient suggestions for an LBS closer to your destination than us North County Boys.

Hell, there is nothing wrong with a single speed cruiser along the boardwalk from the Mission Jetty up to PB pier and back at 5 mph in August. Plenty of wildlife to observe, just be sure you stay behind the wife/gf for your errr, her safety and all. If you decide to venture this trek, stop at Lahaina's for a cheep beer on a crowded patio just off the beach.

nice. this is definitely going to be a fun vacation. the wife is very interested in laying by the pool during the day/doing the spa thing, so that leaves me free for at least a full day or two, i'll definitely let you know when i nail down the dates.

its also very cool that i'll be able to rent a real road bike to get some miles in, looks like that shop rents race wheels too, so i dont see any reason why i shouldnt rent a bike with zipps attached.

Great spot to take off from. You can go in any direction. West is the boardwalk, north is PB/La Jolla/Mt. Soledad and the 101 to Oceanside, South to OB and Point Loma, East to...uh...ok, you might have to drive closer to the mountains but there's always the Fiesta Island circuit you gotta do once just to see the Triathalon folks and that smell, oh it's special. GL on the vacation, should be fun.

B & L in Solana Beach, a little north of San Diego has some very nice bikes to rent. We rented from them about a year ago, and they were good to work with.

For future reference, Synaptic Cycles (www.synapticcycles.com) rents higher end road bikes in San Diego and Orange Counties. We even deliver and pick up the bikes for no extra charge. If you need to set up a group with bikes, we can offer group discounts.

Full disclosure- I am the owner, but I am very proud of our offerings (currently Calfee and Cervelo) and think we offer a great product.

Yeah, 2 threads advertising the same shop got bumped from oblivion.
Strangely enough the user's only 2 posts.
