Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Incredible ascent. Did it the first weekend it was opened to climbing after the eruption back in the late 80's. View looking down into the crater is something I will never forget.

My hero. But the truth be known, you can have the pool playing part. What the world really needs is a professional beer drinking league. It could be intenational, with teams from all over Europe, Asia, Africa, hell, anyone that can buy in could participate. Think about it, The World Beer Drinking Championships. It would be bigger than the NBA Finals, bigger than World Cup even. Someone needs to take this idea and run with it.

I'll be off to do some canoeing and fly-fishing this weekend. Chasing my 3 year old takes some energy.
Golf is in there too, I'll do some hiking in july.
Might try to do some more ultimate Frisbee this year, played a bit and had a blast.
Winter, well all there is to do here is xc ski. when it's warm enough.

Much like golf or bowling, cycling can hardly be considered a 'sport'.

Well, if you're going to open the door to hobbies .......... there are a whole bunch of other things to add to my previous list, such as taking courses of various sorts, working on my website, reading, and one I do every so often ... finishing or refinishing furniture. I've got just such a project about to begin.

But I don't think of cycling as a "hobby".

I am involved in a form of martial arts/reality based training called "HAGANAH" or "F.I.G.H.T" (Fierce Israel Guerillas Hand to Hand Tactics). It teaches reality scenarios...what you would do if you had a gun pulled on you, if you were attacked by 2 people, had a knife pulled on you, etc.... It mixes a bit of Tae-Kwondo, Ju Jitsu, MMA fighting. I take that twice a week, and hit the weights the other days.

Cycling is part of my main sport, which is the dreaded world of triathlons. I really hate running, but you have to do it to finish.

In the winter I play hockey.

I also golf.

Yeah, can't do that in the Winter.. Unless you have a death wish that is...

Planning on doing Shasta in a couple months. My first 14teener. Next weekend is Mt. Adams.

I'm hooked. As I see you are as well.

Got out on the Kayaks on Tuesday. Was a great day just hanging out with some good friends, beautiful water, and no women.

running, swimming, wakeboarding, snowboarding and rock climbing. But mainly cycling as I ride close to 200 miles a week.

Running I do regularly (about 20 or so miles a week) as well as swimming, but wakeboarding snowboarding and rock climbing are strictly weekend and vacation sports.

Like someone else has said, I have horrible hand/eye coordination, so I don't play anything involving a ball. But I do have excellent balance.

I picked up a bad sailing habit about 20 years ago that I haven't been able to shake. It actually ended my cycling habit until recently.

I was too skinny to play football, not tall enough to play basketball, not strong enough to wrestle, and I didn't have the skill to hit a small ball with a bat or a racket.

I would've joined cross country or track and field, but I was too lazy to be devoted to it.

When my friends invited me to go ride up the mountain near where we live, I thought it wouldn't be too bad. I had the cheap sports authority bike while the others had road bikes. I got dropped badly. From then on my goal was to beat them up the mountain.

I accomplished that goal.
